Album Notes

While the radio and TV spurt out the overproduced product of the factory farm studio, Traveler's music is grass fed and cage free. It is a sound that is universal and approachable, yet able to establish a personal relationship with the listener.

On their latest disc Possibilities, Andy Black, Carol Burrus and Charlie Burrus create a groove that gives Traveler's music its organic texture, but it is Carol's voice, both as a songwriter and as a singer, that provides the flavor. Hers is a crystal clear alto, delivered with an earnestness that grabs your attention without demanding the spotlight; the emphasis is on the song, the conversation between musician and listener.

Carol's voice is not alone here; the band's tight vocal harmonies are evidence of Traveler's more than 15 years of playing together. During this time the group's style has not remained fixed in one place. Originally a folk music group, Traveler started branching out somewhat on the first two albums, while remaining firmly rooted in its acoustic origins. On Possibilities, the band continues their journey, occasionally accompanied by cellist Max Dyer or clarinetist Howard Hendrix, winding through jazz, folk, soul, pop and rock, taking both acoustic and electric paths, without setting up permanent residence in any one camp.

Wonderful CD!

We loved the whole CD. It's much more jazz-oriented than Traveler's previous CD's, which is great, because Carol's voice is so rich and so soulful. These are the kinds of songs that can take you places in your imagination -- lots of energy, lots of romance, lots of longing. Loved it, loved it, loved it!
