Travis Grode was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1979, the oldest of 3 children and the son of a farmer and carpenter. His mother left the family at an early age when his parents divorced and he was raised by his single father until several years later when his father remarried. His father finished his college degree in 1991, and after accepting a teaching and basketball coaching position, he moved the family to Plankinton South Dakota, a rural farming community with population of 600. Travis’ childhood was filled with regular trips to the country where his grandparents ran a farm. This simple, rural, and remote upbringing is a basis for his music and writing.
A drummer in high school, active in the arts, he later picked up the guitar as a Senior in high school and began writing music. While enrolled as an Art Major in college, he started his 1st band “Stompbox” and was later asked to leave his own creation due to distance challenges between the band members. It was then that he began recording some of his own original music. After cutting his 1st full length project in 2006 with a newly formed band, “The Color Green”, he then spent his latter college years playing in Midwest bars and clubs, obtaining a small, but popular local acclaim.
After graduating college with a Marketing degree, he moved to Denver Colorado, married, and began a career in the casino industry. Soon after, he started a family, and is now the father of 2 children. He had been writing songs for the past 5 years before he secured the financing to record a new professional project and is now releasing his solo EP “Rhubarb Garden”. This new 5 song EP is pointed at a style of music that contains adventurous, emotional, and absorbing lyrics paired with hushed vocals over an acoustic guitar.
