Album Notes

Recorded in both Texas and Washington, "In The" EP is as short as it is sweet. This low-fi record somehow managed to create a world where the ideals of radio friendly pop and avant-garde film scores not only co-exist peacefully, but actually kiss and make-up. This "opposites attract" phenomenon surprisingly results in what those mainstream mall-goers might label as "cute" and the indie elite might indifferently dismiss as “genius.” Agreed...it is an odd pairing and in many ways is reminiscent of a rich dessert...where more than a bite is too much for those with even the sweetest tooth and therefore perfect to share. Just under 19 minutes in length, Treebends' debut release is an amuse-bouche sprinkled with epic tendencies likely to present listeners with the dilemma of feeling "full" while wishing for just one more bite. Have no fear, this little gem is worth a repeat and is guaranteed not to leave you feeling bloated.

REVIEWS

Great EP!

This is a cool album with some very dreamy songs. The band seems to be somewhat of a mystery and I can't find much info on them. Perfect EP to close your eyes and chill with.

Treebends signals to us from our unheralded real world.
author: Tom Schreiner (Smallwire, National Tryst)
I long to tell you something about what the music Treebends can do and does do if you consent to give it its time and place in your day-to-day. I'm glad that major labels are truly and finally dying after already being dead for so long. Why (other than the obvious reasons)? Because I was sick of having to define myself, my taste, my ethics, in opposition to them. Nobody gets to be better than anyone else anymore. Pop songs can finally be appreciated as the nuggets of pure love that they've always been (and never were). Music can be art, now that 'The Arts' are exposed. The Baby Boomers have begun their slow-motion march to the grave. They have all the money, and they're taking it with them. Let them keep the money; let them keep 'The Arts'. But let's hold onto pop music. We'll have to be smart to survive out there, but that's okay, we knew we were going to have to wise up sooner or later. Treebends deserves a manifesto. How else can we gather people together around the maypole of Treebends? But we don't need more manifesti stinking up the place. We need content. Treebends is content. Two or three years ago, I stumbled upon 'Waves' (track 5 of this collection) when passing through its unassuming corner of the Internet. This haunting piece, at once familiar and alien, remained with me for days and weeks and months before I even knew what it was that was remaining with me. It triggered in me memories of moments long forgotten and reconnected me with yearnings for possible futures that I resolve never again to abandon. The music on this Treebends EP is entirely of this unheralded – or unheraldable? – real world, where memories and possible futures and the elastic/infinitesimal present are stitched together with a craftsman's patience and attention to detail. Categories don't contain it, and labels don't point to it. Don't wait for these apparatus to catch up. Treebends is for right now.
