Album Notes

For this first album, I decided to work with different producers in order to explore various musical avenues and try to create
particular atmospheres. I wanted to create contrasts that would take the listener on a journey, just like when you leave home and walk from one street to another. The settings change.

I wanted to offer this music so that each person could begin an inner voyage. I hope my lyrics will inspire people to move out of the immobility and torpor, and be encouraged to find a place through their spiritual quest.

This CD is defined as French alternative songs with folk and native accents. The emphasis is on acoustic instuments for their intimate warmth and their roots. I also chose electric instruments for their power and roar, as well as for their contrast, their modernism and their absurdity.

My music is inspired by Pop for its sense of security and heartyness, by folk songs for its simple language inspired by nature, and by essentiel elements such as life, death, love. It is also inspire by Natives whom I admire for their inner depth and ancestral values always seeking to be in harmony with nature. I've also added experimental music for its theatricalness, the diversity of such sounds and the elements of surprise that it conveys. My voice is inspire by Natives, my music is lively and my melodies are imprinted with romanticism.

My musical influences come from The Police, The Nits, Félix Leclerc, Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, Men Without Hats, Talking Heads and other grunge groups.

Too often, today's society works in bureaucratic and insensitive ways. So many times I am filled with a sense of powerlessness when I meet disillusioned people. For me, music is a way to lessen this powerlesness. It makes me long for a better life. It is a reflection of my spirit and brings freedom to my soul. It's also a way to express my opinions. It might sound utopic but I still believe that you can change the world with a song.

REVIEWS

Apprivoiser l'aurore is a crossing between rock and Quebec folksong, filled with a surprisingly large range of electronic sounds. - Voir, June 2000

Listening to Apprivoiser l'aurore, is like being on a voyage of contrasts; where the old mixes with the modern and the acoustic blends with the electronic. - Le journal de Québec, June 2000

This CD is unlike any other. When you first listen to Apprivoiser l'aurore, you discover how much Jean-François Tremblay is a lover of nature, as well as how his influences from French and First Nation culture are weaved through his music. The constant soul searching of this artist in relation to humans, life and death fits very well with the name of his indie label Natuata (which means «to seek» in Montagnais. - Le point, August 2000
