Trespassers Will was formed by a chance meeting in the produce section of a local grocery store. Beth and Bud were frustrated with their band situation, and bumped into Mark David who was also frustrated with his current band situation. So one thing led to another and the three decided to band together! Obviously, ground rules were needed, so we three decided on some rules:
1. No Grateful Dead covers. While we all loved the Dead, we didn't want to cover any of their songs.
2. Use nonstandard instrumentation as much as possible. We used banjo, guitar, mandolin, percussion, bass and drums whenever and wherever the mood struck whether it was expected or not!
3. Do mostly original material, and if we did covers, we'd do them our own way.
4. Most importantly....HAVE FUN!
With these rules in hand, we built the band. From that point on we were nearly unstoppable. We played extensively and recorded and promoted our first and only CD, "clownie" which received a lot of college airplay and was a regional success for us. One of the songs on it, "Cafe Blinky Light" was chosed by Roo Records to be on a benefit compilation CD for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. That same song was also chosen by MTV to be on an episode of The Real World. It was quite an adventure for us and it still makes us smile. It's nice to be able to honestly say "Hey, I've been on MTV".
The players in the band are:
Bud Bennett: rhythm guitar, banjo, vocals
Beth Kelsey: bass
Laura Blackley: rhythm guitar, vocals
Mark David: lead guitars
Brian Mabe: drums
MAx Wetzel: percussion

Catchy, sincere acoustic rock
author: C M
As I listen to this CD, I envision Bela Fleck sitting in with the Grateful Dead. If you enjoy jam-oriented acoustic rock tunes with catchy melodies, this should be right up your alley! Bud Bennett's banjo work adds a unique flavor, managing to sound both traditional and original. Both Bennett and Laura Blackley deliver sincere, heartfelt vocal performances, with lyrics of introspection and idealism.
In this age of quantized sequencers and antisceptic samplers, thrashing guitars and ranting rappers, and whining teenagers with auto-tuned voices, it is good for the soul to enjoy an album devoid of all these things. Clownie is all about capable musicians and honest, catchy songs with thought-provoking lyrics and solid performances.

Rootsy, enjoyable jams, listen and love!
author: Anthony Ruocco
The first thoughts that came to my mind upon hearing "clownie" were of Terrapin-era Dead, with its rootsy jams and the interplay of male and female lead vocals. Trespassers Will goes a few steps further than that, combining the best aspects of folk, rock, bluegrass and psychedelia to create an album full of enjoyable gems that flow seamlessly from one to the next. Lyrically we find beautiful imagery, wearing flowers in our hair and welcoming the wind as our friend. Compelling stories and comments as well, of seeing the "grey haired jazz man play" and questioning Ishi, and asking the introspective, "Would it be better if we were all rocks?" .... Musically the band grooves; a bunch of talented musicians with chemistry that you can feel. The opening bass notes of "Pond Thing" bring me to a sunny summer day, barefoot in the grass, lavishing in music and earth and friends ... a great place to be. And I'll be there often with "clownie" at my side.
