Winner of the 2004 South Florida Folk Festival Singer/Songwriter Competition
Best Up-Tempo and Best Overall
2004 Winner of the Phyllis Schliessman Award
for Outstanding Contributions to Women's Music
One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Tret Fure is extraordinarily talented. Last year found her winning the prestigious South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition in two out of three categories, Best Up-Tempo and Best Overall, as well as the Phyllis Schliessman Award for Outstanding Contributions to Women's Music. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure possesses an uncanny mastery of musical technology. Over the past 30 years, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.
This writer, producer, engineer, vocalist and gifted instrumentalist has navigated her career with integrity and determination. After releasing her premier album on MCA records in 1973, titled Tret Fure, and becoming one of the first women sound engineers in the country, she left the mainstream music industry. Armed with a fierce desire to retain full artistic control, Fure began exploring the independent side of the industry and soon discovered the blossoming genre known as Women's Music. She has been a major player in that field ever since. Now after 3 acoustic releases on her own label, Tomboy girl Records, she has re-established herself in the folk world.
Fure's acclaimed solo releases include Terminal Hold, Edges of the Heart, Time Turns the Moon, Back Home, which took both album of the year and single of the year awards for 2001 from Outvoice Top 40 and My Shoes, which took the number 2 spot for album of the year in 2003 from Outvoice. Sing Out Magazine says of My Shoes "Fure's new solo venture signals her intent to do more than just move on. This album soars...She has never sounded better...This mature effort surely ranks among Fure's finest works and will be savored by old-time fans and new fans alike." Fure has just releases her latest and best work to date, Anytime, Anywhere. This CD is a 'must have' and will delight you with the variety of style and content. Each of Fure's collections spotlights her gift for creating lyrical and musical vignettes. Whether it is her signature disarming piano ballad "That Side of the Moon", the moving and beautiful story of her Norwegian grandparents "Ancestors" or the gorgeous love song, "Dream Time", Fure's words transform inaccessible and complex emotions into that which listeners can viscerally touch.
Fure also markets of her own line of clothing named after her popular song "Tomboy girl". With the success of this venture, she has recently opened a retail store in Madison, WI with her partner, Jane Weldon. In addition, the two produce a series called Music & Comedy in Madison and host the successful festival, Tomboy girl Fest. An accomplished cook, Fure has also published a cookbook, Tret's Kitchen, featuring her own recipes. Along with bridging the marketing, production, and music worlds, Tret serves as Vice President on the executive board of the Local 1000 Traveling Musicians Association--a union geared toward helping traveling musicians find security and longevity.

Impressive !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.com
Tret is an award winning musician and a veteran engineer who brings her expertise and experiences to her latest twelve plus hidden track album. Tret is supported by a team of talented players who enhance the diversity of sounds found within Tret's unique style of "aggressive folk". Fure's songs run the full gamut of emotions as she eloquently reflects on growing older. Tret's singing ranges from husky to high adding to the many moods conveyed in her music. Tret's production is crisp and clean permitting each part to be heard yet allowing Fure's expressive vocals to flow to the top. 'When The Wind Blows', 'Trouble' and 'Eyes of God' were my favorites with their arresting arrangements, layered instrumentation and rich, lyrical content. Tret Fure is an impressive artist and her insightful CD is good anytime or anywhere!
