Album Notes

“Music for Pictures” contains twenty-nine audio tracks culled, tweaked, re-orchestrated and re-manipulated from this King Crimson alumnus’ extensive body of scoring work for film and television. Using his unique instrumentation of 10-string touch guitars and bluesy fretless guitars, Gunn harnesses the power of several of the world’s top drummers to make this masterful work. These recordings originally began with a series of television documentaries and culminated in a film score for Pavel Runimov, heralded as the new Stanley Kubrick of Russia.

“Music For Pictures” is collection of tight, crystal-like compositions ranging from the dramatically gritty, to the clangorous, to the somnambulistic, to the complete disassembling of sound, itself, into the shattered sonic fissures of the final track.

with guest musicians:

Music for Pictures, and that's what it is.
author: Dag Fjellby
Trey Gunn’s “Music for Pictures” is a special CD. Short, but many tracks. I’ve been a fan of Trey Gunn and his music for as long as I can remember. The CD is very good, but I prefer Gunn’s earlier work like “The Joy of Molybdenum”, “The Third Star” and “Raw Power” I own all of Trey Gunn’s work (I think), and I’m really looking forward to his next solo project. I hope the next CD will be much more alike the ones I’ve mentioned. Anyway - Music for Pictures is a must have CD for all Trey Gunn fans. To the people who are familiar to his music, I will recommend this CD, even if I don’t think it’s among his best. Remember to check out Gunn’s other CD’s! After all - Trey Gunn is one of the leading Chapman Stick/bass players on this planet! :)

A Welcome Addition To The Trey Gunn Catalog
author: Grassy Sound
I've long been a fan of Trey Gunn's "solo" work. While best known for his involvement with Robert Fripp, as well as his membership in King Crimson for nearly ten years, his solo discography has always presented a very talented writer. I eagerly awaited Music For Pictures, and upon my first listen, I found myself smiling frequently, as if to suggest, "Yes, Trey solo is back!" Though many of the track are quite short, each still manages to convey powerful imagery, as well as powerful music. Trey's compositions on this release feature a myriad of styles. Though an entirely instrumental album, all manner of ambient, heavy-rocking, and moody atmospheres prevail. I highly recommend this release, to both fans of Crimson-style music, as well as those fond of soundtracks. It's a powerful collage of musical images that won't disappoint.
