In 'Holy Ground', Trey Thompson takes his collection of basses and styles into a number of varied musical settings, teasing the margin between jazz, Latin & rock styles in 'E Komo Mai' & 'Kai Kane', exploring world music textures in the title track 'Holy Ground', and in intimate renditions of contemporary classic compositions by Billy Childs, Miles Davis, and Victor Young. He co-wrote "Shorter" with soprano saxophonist Curtis Gaesser, an ode to the brilliant sax player Wayne Shorter.
This collection is improvisational and conversational throughout; small ensemble - in duos, trios and quartets - featuring Michael Ruff on keyboards and Tris Imboden (Chicago) on drums (see credits below).
Trey has performed and/or recorded with Joe Cocker, Steven Stills, Graham Nash, Larry Carlton, Jose Feliciano, Cher, Les Dudek, Mike Finnigan, Jim Krueger, James Newton-Howard, David Foster, Amy Holland, Michael McDonald, Kenny Rogers, Jim Mandell, Linda Thompson, Black Rose, Steel Horses, Touch and others. He studied under Herb Mickman & Carol Kaye, spent years touring with some of those hard working bands (in the 70's and 80's), and worked in the Los Angeles area as a session player.
Trey also worked with Mike Post, playing music for the television shows Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, Hunter and others. Trey played & acted a part as a bandmember in the George Burns comedy 'Oh God! You Devil.'
Today, Trey, Sara, and their sons Taylor & Wyatt make their home on Kauai. Trey can often be found playing string bass in a trio or quartet at one of the local evening venues or at their church.

John Berger, Honolulu Star Bulletin
"Thompson proves a solid player on acoustic and electric instruments alike, and he approaches the eight tunes here with varying numbers of musicians around him. Guitarist Brandon Yip's reworking of "Like Father Like Son" as a piece for guitar and bass is one of the most unconventional. Thompson's wife, Sara, adds another diverse element as the vocalist on a leisurely exploration of Miles Davis' 'Blue In Green'."

Excellent Jazz by Trey Thompson, a Real Wood Bass Player!
author: Beth Helms
We wanted to give an A+ to the Holy Ground CD of Trey Thompson. From the first track, hearing the 'thong' of that wood bass, the piano, and brushes on the drumbs, we were taken to another realm!
