Album Notes

Mike Trike is: an indie-pop project fronted by long-time Winnipeg singer-songwriter Michael Marshall and his wife Shelley Marshall of Nathan. Also in the band are Ashley Roch of the Western States, and Jason Churko of Transistor Sound & Lighting Co. Other alumni include members of Novillero, the Hummers and Boat. The Mike Trike sound: Skirting the line between pop and folk, Mike Trike focuses on stripped-down orchestration, soft vocals, and pop melodies, as well as the use of a wide range of instruments (i.e. banjo, mandolin, accordion, etc.) REVIEWS OF 'APARTMENT 18': "Apartment 18 is a flawless jewel of gorgeous, shimmering indie-pop highlighted by Marshall's winsome melodies and hushed vocals." - ****1/2 out of 5 - Calgary Sun, August 2004. Michael Marshall's "lo-fi, acoustic Elliott Smith-meets-Death Cab for Cutie songwriting prowess is what ultimately makes Apartment 18 work. It’s taken almost six years, but the next great indie hope from Winnipeg has finally arrived." - Exclaim Magazine, September 2004 "Backed by mostly acoustic instruments, including accordion and banjo, Marshall's wispy, half-whispered vocals waver between earnest and unsure, striking a delicate balance that will keep you listening to hear what beauty will be revealed next. These are songs of insightful, wistful observation that will have your heart aching and your mouth grinning at the same time" - GRADE 'A' - Uptown Magazine, June 2004 "Listeners can expect a plethora of vocal harmonies, catchy lyrics and clever songwriting. Marshall's first solo record is great to listen to before bed or by the lake on a summer day." - Chartattack.com "A gem of a short little indie-pop record." - Bartley Kives, Winnipeg Free Press
