Album Notes

A pure voice and unspoiled powerful presence have gained the singer-songwriter from Minneapolis a steady national following since she began playing solo shows on the downtown New York City club scene. Trina attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating with a degree in Professional Music. She then moved to New York City and began playing the club circuit in the band, Blue Leaves, as she honed her songwriting skills and found her voice.

Demand has grown steadily. While touring acoustically, Trina has shared stages with Paula Cole, Ricki Lee Jones, John Hiatt and Duncan Shiek. She was chosen as one of the "Most Wanted" artists at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and performed to a sold out crowd at the Newport Folk Festival, along with Ani DiFranco and the Indigo Girls.

Trina has jokingly said that the blues were created in her native Minnesota...she's only kidding, of course - but one thing Hamlin is quite serious about is the importance of blues feeling. Her newest release "Foundation" takes us back to the basics: guitar, harmonica, piano and voice.

. . . has a musical and emotional range that should take her far . . . proving that a great voice can still be the best secret weapon.

. . . a voice that amazes and her songs are endearingly raw, mixing elements of R&B, blues and rock with grace and apparent ease.

. . . Hamlin's organic mix of Folk, Rock and Blues works wonders in an acoustic setting and her soulful voice has a Siren-y ability to pull the listener closer. - Mike Breen - Cincinnati CityBeat

. . . a powerhouse voice, sizzling harmonica chops and a gift for blending blues, folk, pop and rock. - Jim Catalano-
Ithaca Journal

A gritty, passionate soulfulness drives her work Trina is an amazing guitar and blues harp player. I was left slack-jawed. - Joe del Priore-Hudson Current

One of the most exciting new voices on the unplugged scene. Trina was a showstopper at the Newport Folk Festival. - Multi Stage Productions

Setting the blueprint for her own legendary status, Trina Hamlin is simply a genuine soul who knowingly speaks for each of us who revel in both the joy and pain of longing. Her most recent, sonically architected offering, Foundation is a highly personal, emotionally penetrating popcraft guaranteed to create an unbreakable empathetic bond with her legions of listeners. Stripped down to the essentials, this album exemplifies that less is more. As sure as you’re alive, it’s textured enough to give you a range of sensation, to feel something …whether you’re in or out of love for what always seems like the first of the millionth time.

In two words: Own it!

I have only listened to "Foundation" once but I already feel a need to rate it. And that´s because it is so beautiful. Just guitar, harmonica and voice - boring? Not at all, not if it is Trina Hamlin you´re listening to. A haunting deep voice, very pretty and original melodies and the aura of a pure folk-soul. I am so proud to be an owner of this wonderful CD.

I have recently become the proud owner of her "Foundation" CD. I am completely mesmerized and I find myself pushing the replay button each time the CD ends, and it always seems to end way to soon.

Deep, strong voice and vital lyrics backed up by badass harmonica

When you first hear Leave, the second song on Foundation, you search for where you might have listened to it previously. Then you realize that there is such a familiarity in all of the songs on this album that Trina Hamlin has done something all soulful pop musicians wish they could do: revivify. At first I thought One Good Reason sounded like Tina Turner's earlier amazing work. You Can't Remember is moving and soft at the beginning but builds to this chilling intensity that gets in your blood. This honest, brilliant cd manages to highlight a distinct voice (and one hell of a harmonica player) and sound utterly new while constantly referring to its obvious blues, soul and alternative pop roots. A unity is achieved as these sounds fuse together. In a word, impressive. In five, impressive, impressive, impressive, impressive, impressive.
