Album Notes

Since 1994 Trip Lizard has been dazzling the independent music landscape with their eclectic musical mix of funk, rap, soul, ska and rock. Their highly energetic stage presence and melodious diversity has earned the band a strong reputation throughout the Eastern U.S. and beyond. Their stage presence and staying power was on full display in the fall of 2002 when they finished in the top ten out of more than 350 bands in The Hard Rock Café's national battle of the bands competition. More recently, Washington DC's oldest microbrewery, Foggy Bottom, became Trip Lizard's sponsor after recognizing their strict attention to detail, performance, professionalism, and work ethic. And this fall they were honored to become the official band the World Adult Kickball Association of Arlington, VA, a testament to their young appeal and stage presence.

On June 12, 2004, Trip Lizard released their second CD, "Robotripping," recorded at the world renowned Omega Studios in Rockville, Maryland. The new disc is a follow up to their first release, "Bamboo Chicken," which sold more than 13,000 copies. The new CD mixes many of Trip Lizard's signature elements with other innovative influences, and successfully shows the high concentration of instrumental and vocal talent in the band.

The band has evolved over the years and in doing so has developed a more distinctive sound. This is particularly evident in their live performance. On guitars are veteran musicians Scott Fallon and Eric Reinhart. Fallon, the ominous riff master, handles the rhythm while Reinhart flourishes in his uncanny ability to hit the perfect note on every lead. When combined with the thunderous pulse of drummer Dan Shortt, and imaginative jazz influenced bass lines of Steve Kaufman, a commanding rhythm section is created to back up the energetic and methodically dynamic front man, Dennis Mayer. As one area promoter commented, "it's 311 meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers on high octane."

Since its creation, Trip Lizard has performed at hundreds of venues, festivals and major music events. Highlights include: Washington DC's Live on Penn, the Philadelphia Music Conference, Arlington VA's Blocktoberfest, Rock the Debt Freedomfest, the Fourth of July Smoke-In, and WGMU's Spring Fest. Also, the band has shared the stage with national acts such as Govt. Mule, Better Than Ezra, Jimmy's Chicken Shack, Carbon Leaf, and Vanilla Ice as well as some of the region's other top acts such as Fighting Gravity, The All Mighty Senators, Everything, Getaway Car, Michael Sheppard Group, and Blue Miracle.

With a mailing list over 2,700 members strong and growing Trip Lizard has consistently exhibited the ability to grow and diversify in order to stay in synch with their ever increasing fan base.

Robotripping ROCKS!!!

Robotripping When I heard songs from Robotripping live, I couldn’t wait to hear the recorded version. The seven song CD was no disappointment. Consider that this is one of those albums that you don’t skip through, just let it play. My favorites are Hilltop, for its groovy rhythm and catchy hook that is still in my head, and Bullet, for its upbeat, make you shake your body attitude. It shouldn’t be long before you’ll hear these songs on the radio. Trip Lizard is one of my top favorite local bands for their originality and smart lyrics.
