Album Notes

NEWS FLASH!!!
DAWSON'S TUMBLE NOMINATED FOR A 2007 CANADIAN FOLK MUSIC AWARD IN THE CATEGORY OF BEST INSTRUMENTAL SOLO ALBUM!

Originally from Courtenay, BC, Trish studied violin performance at the University of Victoria and the University of Western Ontario, where she did graduate work in Popular Musicology under Serge Lacasse and Keir Keightley.

As a classical violinist and violist, she’s performed with string quartets and orchestras in BC, Alberta, and Ontario. She was a founding member of the Tan Trio with Nicole Arendt (marimba) and Chris Helman (saxophones).

Along the way, fiddle music has been a constant part of Trish's life and career. In 2002 she joined the Celtic band Hollow Promise and immersed herself in the study of traditional music. After several years of contributing fiddle and vocal lines to recordings by artists including Gary Fjellgaard, Rick Scott, Tamara Little, and Kelly Green, Trish finally released her own debut CD in September 2007.

"Dawson's Tumble" features some of her favorite traditional tunes as well as her own compositions. Trish plays fiddle and viola, and is supported on the recording by several exceptional musicians including Rick Scott (of Pied Pumpkin fame) on dulcimers and Victoria-based singer-songwriter Paul O'Brien on guitar, mando-cello and bodhran. Also featured on the album are Terry Boyle (guitar), Chris Helman (pennywhistle), Andrea L'Heureux and Charity Munro (vocals), Anthony Maki (percussion), and Veronica Wagner (viola).

The CD was recorded and mixed on Protection Island by Anthony Maki, a recent co-nominee for "best producer" at the 2007 Vancouver Island Music Awards. Many of the original tunes on the CD were inspired by life on Protection Island, and they range from calm soundscapes to rollicking reels.
