Album Notes

TR Ritchie has been described as a classic folk troubadour and his lyric-driven award-winning songs - most recently he took top honors in the Suzanne Milsap Performing Songwriter Showcase at the 2008 Founder's Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival at Utah's Snowbird Resort - have earned him a well deserved reputation as a "songwriter's songwriter." His neo traditional songs, steeped in the roots influences he loves – traditional folk, swing, country blues and ragtime - are wide ranging in mood and content and the free-form narrative of his live show brings an edgy immediacy to every performance.

A former fire lookout who logged over a dozen seasons working for the Forest Service in the mountains of the Pacifric Northwest, Ritchie began his musical career during his off-seasons in the mid-80’s, singing on the streets of Seattle’s boisterous Pike Street Market. From that experience came his first recording, “Not Just Another Pretty Songwriter,” which garnered favorable reviews regionally.

Encouraged, Ritchie began to range further afield.. In the early 90’s he began to tour nationally and was soon winning both fans and songwriting awards from such festivals as the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Napa Valley Folk Festival, and in later years at the Sister’s Folk Festival and the Walnut Valley Festival in Kansas.

Living now in Moab, Ritchie continues to tour, both solo and as a sideman with musical partner Cosy Sheridan, and in 2008 helped establish the Moab Folk Camp, a four-day workshop oriented retreat. His latest CD, “Wild Horses”, was released in June of 2009.
