True Margrit's piano-driven vignettes will seduce you, with super-catchy (yet unpredictable) choruses and the husky/ sweet/ surreal voice of Margrit Eichler. Think: Aimee Mann & Ben Folds meet Elvis Costello for 3D Scrabble.

Album Notes

True Margrit's signature piano-pop is whip smart, expertly crafted, and has more hooks than a pirate ship. On SEAWORTHY, the trio's 4th and most ambitious album to date, True Margrit navigates the waters of interpersonal politics, vanity, history, time-travel, and mortality, and arrives wth a group of songs that is both emotionally raw and musically evolved.

True Margrit's sound is fueled by singer/ songwriter/piano-player Margrit Eichler's husky-sweet alto, her adventuresome piano, and a secret weapon: the muscular, dynamic, turn-on-a-dime rhythm-section of Gary Hobish on bass and Andrew Bacon on drums.

SEAWORTHY is fleshed out with touches of guitar, cello, oboe, bassoon, sax, and flute by an array of Bay Area guest stars including Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones (of Blame Sally), Amy Meyers, Kat Downs, Carrie Adler, Ned Howey, and Symon Michael.

Although reminiscent of Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello, and Aimee Mann, True Margrit's sound is all their own--a lyrical admixture of science, history, and personal narrative that explores the tension between what is catchy and what is complex.

Based in San Francisco, True Margrit has probably played near you (or will be playing at some point soon) in a solo or band jaunt from NYC to Seattle to Los Angeles or beyond in nightclubs, cafes, theatres, radio & television stations, or sailboats.

TRULY (SEA)WORTHY!!!
author: Dianne Nola

What immediately struck me on this CD were the sweeping harmonies and ever-changing arrangements grounded by a STRONG rhythm section. True Margrit moves from a drifting waltz to a full blown rocking storm. The song True highlights this amazing orchestration. I do not think Margrit Eichler sounds like anybody else except perhaps Vince Guaraldi on Great Praise. Electricity is one of the most beautiful ballads I've ever heard.

Thirteen songs and not a sinker in the bunch. True Margrit composes appealing songs in a variety of styles whose melodies are as playful as their lyrics, combining everyone from Carol King to the Breeders into a cohesive unity. The band gracefully rounds out their adult-oriented sound with enough layers, instrumental variety, rich harmonies, and rousing, singable melodies to bring you back to their open waters time and time again. An album to listen to again and again!

Great songs passionately performed by a chops-a-licious band led by a pianist who plays like she split her childhood between the Brill Building and Tipitina's. Buy this CD!

'Seaworthy' is a witty, tuneful and musically literate collection of songs.

Everything you have read on this site is true. 'Seaworthy' should be recommended to anyone who likes thoughtful, quirky, tuneful, adult pop music. The references are all valid - Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, maybe even a touch of kd lang on the vocals- but the record makes a statement of its own. The songs are witty and musically literate, while the playing is authoritative, measured and insightful. This band should be on the radio!
