Album Notes

After having warmed the stage for a distinguished and varied group of acts such as Outkast, Ben Kweller, LL Cool J, My Morning Jacket, Ludacris, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Green Day and Blink 182 with his previous band, multi-instrumentalist and lifetime rock-obsessed Shank Bone Mystic decided he needed a project. Hed had videos on TRL, hed performed on HBO, but hed never had his very own rock band. So he gathered a group of some of his favorite musicians hed shared stages with in the past to form what is now known as the Shank Bone Mystic Project. In the years since theyve been together the band has self-released an LP to a packed house at CBGBs, headlined an international music festival in Guatemala and recently had the honor of performing at CMJ and The Brooklyn New Music Festival. They play live relentlessly, leaving pools of melted faces everywhere they go. Each time they play, new fans are made and the press has been nothing but positive for The Projects memorable melodies and fist pumping rock-outs. Michael Azerrad (Come As You Are, Our Band Could Be Your Life) called them "ridiculous, in the best way possible". SBMP has no intention of stopping, after all, this New York City needs them.

SBMP Narrowly Avoids Sophomore Slump. OK, Not Really.

When I first heard a sample of this album through the bands website I thought it wasn't going to live up to their debut LP "From Within The Walls". But I had to buy it anyway. And I sure am glad I did. While it may not be quite as good as the first was, it's still pretty damn cool. On the first album Shank's voice was the dominant force but on this effort he seems to be sharing the spotlight with drummer Jamie Callahan. They compliment eachother very nicely in many different styles making "Million Dollar Rock And Roll Carousel" more like an emotional roller coaster and the end result is one hell of a fun ride.
