Album Notes

TopCat Records is proud to announce the release of
Texas blues veteran Texas Slim’s debut CD Driving
Blues. After an illustrious career primarily on the regional
blues circuit, this Texas crooner throws his hat into the
international blues ring with the effortless virtuosity of a
seasoned artist. From the start, this all original collection
of songs reflects the spirited diversity that is Texas Slim.
Robert “Robin” Sullivan, aka. Texas Slim, first shook hands
with the blues at the age of fourteen, thanks to his Mom’s
job at the Dallas Library where he met blues legend Alex
Moore, who played a lunchtime solo gig every Tuesday.
(It was Moore who gave him his stage name - Texas Slim).
Texas Slim was heavily influenced by the likes of Freddie
King, John Lee Hooker and Johnny Winter. Slim has
recorded with, played and/or toured with Coco Montoya, Zack Harmon, Smokey Wilson, Sonny Rhodes,
opened for Johnny Winter several times, Blue Oyster Cult, The Spin Doctors, The Blues Brothers, Bobby
“Blue” Bland, Cold Blue Steel, Randy McAllister, Wanda King (Freddie King’s daughter), Alex Moore, Little
Joe Blue and E.C. Scott. He also was one of the first artists to play at the Hard Rock Café and the original
House of Blues in Cambridge, MA.
Driving Blues features the talents of drummer/producer Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors), Alan Comess and
Pat Daugherty on Keyboards and Todd Horton playing trumpet. This CD is drenched with that famous
signature Texas blues guitar sound. But let there be no doubt that the heart and soul of Driving Blues is Texas
Slim’s captivating vocals and his unique Texas rockin’ blues guitar style. The music presented here comprises
Slim’s contemporary and traditional elements blended together
into music sure to please his wide and dedicated following.
Driving Blues is destined to receive great reviews and is
sure to be one of the top CD releases of 2009.
