Album Notes

"The Light Within" is guitarist Tony Smothermans' second release. The new studio album is a listening experience of Melodic Rock, Cosmic Funky Grooves( Space Anthem), Neo-Classical , also World music explorations like "From my Heart " feature special Guest Indian Slide guitar Master Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on 3 tracks.

Bhatt plays and sings with vitruostic command , accompanied by tablas and Bhatt on his Mohan Veena , Fusiony and melodic rock solos outline the whole record and intricate Acoustic Compositions Like "Lost but Not Forgotten" open this album to a wide audience and an open musical spectrum.

Joining Tony on this release on Keyboards is world-reknowned keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Planet X ,Ex-Dream Theater) his playing contributes to the over all feel moods on this record. Dereks keyboard unison runs with guitar have to be heard to be believed (Lost in Time). Derek also brings another element to the ambient side of this record with intricate and beautiful soundscapes.

This CD is remarkable because it makes the listener feel as if They are on a journey which takes many turns into many lands. It takes one to cosmopolitan Rock & Roll with all the intricate manipulation of strings, then one goes to a tranquility mode and just when you settle in that zone, you are off to another genre of music. Great!!

This is a great CD to be a part of. It's the retro sound of the 80's rock fusion/neo-classical era with the versatility of acoustic guitar and the Mohan Veena. The musicians wouldn't have done it if it wasn't worth it.
