A unified force not to be messed with
author: John Book, Music For America
The people behind The Sound Of Brooklyn (TSOB) Records feel they have what it takes to become a major force in music in the next few years, and demonstrate this with The Sampler Album, which demonstrates their love of hip-hop and soul/R&B.
The album features a selection of five artists, and for those who may like the Dipset or modern-day Fat Joe side of things, check out Sanatra and his tracks "Pull Up" and "I Don't Mind". But for that hard rap styles that Brooklyn has become known for, you'll want to check out Etcetera, who offers up the nice "Backin' Up", a track that would do well with the headnodders as it would with those in the club looking for a drink or two. "Treat U Betta" has him going for the lovers role without regret, and he does it quite well.
There's a lot of clutter in the soul and R&B world, with too many singers not knowing the difference between the two. While she could easily become an R&B sensation, there is a very good chance that Cocoa Sarai will become someone of importance in the soul world. Her voice isn't forced or raw, there's a sleekness to her tones that sounds quite mature for someone who is only 17. She doesn't sound like someone who just wants to sing over well-worn instrumentals, this is someone who could become the next big thing if she gets out there and proves herself to those who need to hear her. "Desire" and "Heartbreak" both show a display of artistry that makes her much more than just the flavor of the month or a random chorus singer. If she gets the push, Sarai will go very far.
The other artists on this CD show much potential, and with a bit more work and polish they will be a united force not to be messed with.

Amazingly sound! Definitely better than I expected.

I was surfing the site and discovered this rare gem. As an independent label this album sounds much like perfection.
These artists especially "Etcetera" and "Cocoa" are amazingly talented. Not taking anything away from the other artists but their music is natural and refreshing.
Jhett-O-Nasis sound is fluid and fun. Sha' and Sanatra gives the album balance.
All in all this album is most definitely well put together.
