Combining jazzy percussive guitar riffs, and upbeat rhythms, Tuesday's Debut definitely stands out in the crowd. The band hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles can be considered many things but not a hot bed for rock music. New Orleans is a huge jazz and blues area and central Louisiana is full of cajun music. Therefore, Tuesday's Debut has been subjected to a plethora of sounds and music that not many other people have been exposed to.
Formed in early 2004, the group began as a way to explore musical creativity and a way to just have fun. After an assortment of members, Tuesday's Debut finalized the group with William Ferguson (vocals and guitar), Chris Brennan (guitar), James Yarbrough (bass), and Austin Aguirre (percussion). The name originates from the fact that all new music debuts on Tuesdays. Every Tuesday, bands, no matter how big or small, release their album. Tuesday's Debut began playing small gigs and clubs in the Lake Charles area. They began to branch out and have been playing larger venues throughout East Louisiana and in East Texas. In May 2005, the guys began recording their debut album, "An Hour in the Air". The album is a great testament to a band searching for a musical identity and finding it. The music is upbeat and has caught the ears of indie rock fans as well as modern rock/pop fans. The band has made appearances on local TV and in local newspapers. The band is still looking for a record deal.
ABOUT THE ALBUM
"Diecast Upperclass...," a track from the debut full-length by Louisiana's Tuesday's Debut, builds from jangled guitars into the thrashiest track on the album, "...In Search of Something", in which singer Will Ferguson invokes every ounce of Isaac Brock he can. Ferguson cites Modest Mouse as a huge influence as well as At the Drive In and Ryan Adams. The inspirations are noticable. Throughout An Hour in the Air, the band works somewhere between lo-fi indie rock, highly textured modern rock and stark, acoustic ballads. What stands out is the sonic breadth of the album. From the Death Cab for Cutie-esque, "Tiny Spaces," to the Third Eye Blind-like "The Letter Dismissed". The album's not all mush though. It drips with enough rock to rival the best of bands like Jimmy Eat World, and Queens of the Stone Age. An Hour in the Air is a great buy for fans of modern rock and indie rock. Tuesday's Debut is definitely poised to win over more listeners. - Shawn Brennan
