Album Notes

Fresh Points on Life is exactly that_a fresh voice, a fresh perspective, and a fresh sound, informed by the golden age of hip hop and updated with a catalog of musical influences. Fresh Points is old school quality with new school freshness. Using beats from Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and Boston (from respected producers like Omid, 7L, Elusive, Scienz of Life, and Confidence), Tulsi showcases the breadth and depth of his arsenal. Fresh Points addresses anything and everything, against an impressive backdrop of beats, with three songs featuring Los Angeles vocalist Ms. Karter, and a throw-back song featuring Kontinuwis. Using an off-beat sense of humor, an ear for quality, and a knack for relating to a broad range of listeners, Tulsi grabs everyone from underground hip hop purists to working class professionals to college kids struggling to find their way. Fresh Points is life-inspired music, and for once, its a life most of us can relate to. In a genre plagued by repetitive styles, borrowed identities, clichéd themes, and hollow claims, Tulsi’s debut simply offers himself: a technically-gifted lyricist with no pretensions. Fresh Points on Life is an ambitious effort by an artist comfortable and candid enough to be himself, which is rare in hip hop. Of course, it also helps that Fresh Points is just good music.

Tulsi is a Seattle-based artist/emcee who has spent over 15 years perfecting his craft, from Spokane to Los Angeles to Seattle. A true student of hip hop, Tulsi draws from the best of various eras to innovate, focused on the art of making music. Instead of talking about how great he is, Tulsi’s philosophy is to show us, with insights on politics and everyday life. Foregoing ego-driven battle raps, Tulsi adds substance to the style, talking to listeners rather than at them.

Breaths new life into a Suffocating art
author: Trevor DeBuhr
Each track takes you to different place, which is something you can't say about anything in Hip Hop for some time. The lyrics are on point and the beats would make paraplegics tap their toes.

A really innovative, catchy, listenable album.
author: Nathan Cortez
The album has incredible breadth ... a lot of different songs and sounds and themes. Nothing repetitive or unoriginal, as is too often the case with new hip hop albums these days. Solidly clever and innovative, but not at the expense of good listening.

One of the best HipHop albums of the year
author: Eric Pruett
Very dope and original album, if you are looking for something fresh, honest and inovative check it out. We listen to it at work all the time and the comparisons that most often get thrown out are Atmosphere and Deltron. The lyrics will blow you away on a few of the tracks. Definately something to have in your cd changer or ipod.
