Tucked away in the small villages of the lush Kaçkar mountain region of northeast Turkey we find the Tulum, the traditional bagpipe of the Hemsin and Laz people. This recording captures the unique sounds of two solo players from the village of Hemsin. Murat Avan and Yasar Çorbacioglu, representing two generations, play different styles of Tulum, both following the tradition that has preceeded them for centuries.

real music
author: Hervé
This is a very good record about that bagpipe played by Turks, Greeks and Laz people. Unfortunately, there is no notes or text about the music or the musicians. My view is that it is always interesting to know a bit more about the musicians when they can tell us about their life, background etc... specially when the music in question is very little recorded. I recommand you listen to Birol Topaloglu, kemençe and tulum player from Lazistan who managed to re elaborate that laz music, which is very old, in a modern way but without killing the spirit of the music.

Real, pure, good
author: Richard Summerbell
Wow!! This is the good stuff, the real stuff, the pure stuff! Anyone who is a fan of the greater world of the pipes needs to know that these pipes are right up there with the Asturian and the Galician as exciting, tuneful, and thematically fresh. Excellent recording, too! This is no ethnographic curiosity, this is real music!
