Blown Away By Quality Tunes
author: Women's Radio News - Brian Ball
Jump into this compilation with no expectations and you will be blown away at the amount of quality tunes packed into a single compact disc! Let yourself drift away to the subtle jazz breaks while funk guitars glide listlessly over smooth cymbal crashes and frolicking flute licks. Exquisite female contributions from Dawn Gifford and Sitali on Aurora and KayaZ’s track titled “Love | Fear (ft. Sitali)” which brings storytelling to the next level accompanied by electronic music filled with spots of mystery and intellectual stimulation, all while praying on our innermost fears and desires. Join Apple Rochez on Thomas Blondet’s “Into Me,” for a sexy, resonating deep house session on track 4, and flow directly into Jasinski’s Remix of Jette-Ives’ “In The Presence of…” on track 5, which flawlessly blends both Chicago and Miami sounds into a formula that ends up as what I’m dubbing the “D.C. Sound from the Underground” in reference to the title of this ‘compilation for a cause,’ The Underground Sound of D.C.: D.C.’s Finest Electronica Musicians out now on Tone13 Recordings. Our favorite highlight on this disc was tuning into the addictive drum rolls and filters of J-Punch’s “Naughty” featuring Alessia Gaggini’s elegant vocals. Rising and falling, we wash away a night’s worth of sin by dancing on sandy beaches in the bright morning sunlight of this song! “This ‘compilation for a cause’ is the perfect way to celebrate life and raise HIV-AIDS awareness through the gift of electronic music” —Brian Ball, Talent Director, Women's Radio News

The Underground Sound of DC is Worthy of Attention
author: First Coast News - Paul Zimmerman
The Underground Sound of DC [is] a fantastic album. Featuring artists such as Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Kid Gusto, and Seroya, the album is a laidback jazzy downtempo party. The songs are mixed by Ivan G and Holmes Ives into a perfect blend of jazzy housey tempos and vibes that constantly stays upbeat. Each of the songs are good enough to stand alone, but when mixed, each of the fourteen artists here combine into a unstoppable force of chilled beats and breaks. From the brilliant jazz breaks of Deepsixteen's, "Live at the Majestic," to the Latin flavor of Thievery Corporation's, "The Heart's A Lonely Hunter," The Underground Sound of DC is one awesome record. It's housey, it's downtempo, it's groovy, it's deep, and really, really well put together. So take one heck of a record, give it a sense of unity and make it for a worthy cause and you're left with something that is just about as essential as water. The Underground Sound of DC is highly recommended in every sense of the word. Help a worthy cause AND get some very good music in return.

Stellar performances that benefit an even better cause
author: smother.net
"This is an undertaking. Finding the finest electronica-based musicians in all of D.C.? Wow. Well as breathtaking an endeavor as it was to undertake, the album matches the effort with stellar performances from such notables as Thievery Corporation, Arthur Loves Plastic, Seroya, Fort Knox Five, Johnson and Burns, and J-Punch among others. What you have here is a nice album that benefits an even better cause—creating awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS with all proceeds from album sales going to the Whitman-Walker Clinic. Pick it up, now, please."
