"Performing a muscular blend of blues and funk that evokes groups like the Kinsey Report, the Bone Shakers, Funkadelic, Living Colour, and early Red Hot Chili Peppers, this Milwaukee quartet knows how to lock into a groove with equal parts fury and finesse." - Blues Revue Magazine
"With J.D. Optekar and producer Greg Koch supplying the guitar oomph, Tweed Funk takes the listener on an aural tour of various soul and blues roads without diluting any of the strength of those various avenues. Whether it's J.B. funk, old-school horn driven R&B, or a simple shuffle, the fellows know how to work it." - Vintage Guitar Magazine
"The quartet's sophomore outing (7 originals, 3 covers), buttressed by some code-red horns (mainly Jon Lovas and Kevin Klemme), dynamite organist Jimmy Voegeli and guitarist Greg Koch, proves most thrilling on numbers like the salutary shuffle 'Fine Wine', a rhythmic call-out called 'Dancemaker' (that Sam and Dave would have fun with), a Jimmy Reed styled, bluesy advisory titled 'Pick Em Early' (nice gritty guitar courtesy of Optekar) and the appropriately titled 'Fragile'. " - Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine
"When an ensemble of music veterans comes together with a multitude of talent and a single objective the result can be magic. And that is certainly the case with Milwaukee, Wisconsin based band, Tweed Funk. This is a true soul band in the classic sense and they find themselves at the forefront of a soul/blues revival all across the country." - Smokestack Lightnin Radio
Tweed Funk returns with their sophomore CD, Love Is, with 7 brand new Tweed Funk originals and 3 cover songs.
With the opening notes of the CD, Fine Wine tells you right away that there are changes on this CD, changes for the better that is, with the addition a horn section. Fine Wine is a great example of jump/swing blues, showing that Tweed Funk can play any style of blues you want to hear: Chicago blues with Gettn' Home; R&B with Real Mutha For Ya; Dancemaker & Sex Machine gives you your funk.
Over all Love Is, is a fantastic blend that gives Tweed Funk their unique sound & style. With the addition of a horn section on five tracks, a female backing vocal section on 3 tracks, Hammond B3/Keys on 9 of the 10 tracks, and a guest guitarist (CD producer Greg Koch) on two of the cover songs. As well as, Smokey's vocals, as rich & powerful as always, JD's guitar playing, stellar as always and the rhythm section of MG on drums & original bass player Donnie Mac playing a rock solid & steady back beat making this CD a must have for any serious blues fan!" - Kevin Hardy, Main Street Blues Host & Music Director, Kansas City Online Radio
