Album Notes

We are an Atlanta Georgia based Blues,Funk and Soul Band.We have been playing locally and regionally for over seven years and average 150 live shows each year.We are a six piece band with Guitar,Bass,Drums,Piano(Keyboard)Harmonica and more.We play many different venues and strive for audience participation and enjoyment. This C.D covers a wide spectrum of the Blues from Roadhouse Raunch to Jazz/Swing blues making many stops in-between.some important footnotes, this album features guest artists like Reggie Ward from the S.O.S Band and virtuoso guitarist Carl Culpepper who has too many credits to mention including being a puplished musician with Hal Leonard,Cherry Lane and Alfred publishing companies. This album also features The legendary Big Royal Joiner on Keyboard who besides playing with Work in Progress is The Great Blues legend Chick Willis'keyboard player. We also feature the phenomenal Bass playing of Nashid Abdul who has so many credits that we cant even begin to count them including playing with and for Big Bill Morganfield, the son of the late great "Muddy Waters".We also have Sven Hoosen the newest member of the band playing harmonica, guitar, and singing tracks like "Blind Man Blues and "Digital Blues" as well as others. This line-up also features the incomparible Mr. Pete Peterson on the track"A Better Woman" and is now a permanent member.Lets not forget our drummer Ben Irvin who has played with R&B and Blues acts worldwide.I add the main guitar work to this terrific project and have had such a great pleasure playing with this all-star line-up.Thank's for looking,John Marshall. Enjoy!

Very wide palette of material here...
author: Jeff Hubbs
I played drums for WIP in Summer and Fall of 2005 and one night at a gig I overheard John Marshall tell somebody that he really "had a passion for the blues." Well, there is definitely passion packed into the bytes on this disc. I can flatly say that this band sounds better than we did when I played drums for them (in fact, the band as recorded here represents a complete personnel refit from last year, not including John, of course). The drummer, Ben Irvin, comes off as very professional and genre-appropriate, which is especially noteworthy because there's a very wide palette of material here - it's not a one-trick-pony band. Far from it. One thing that I really like about this CD is that, much like Steve Howe's work, there's a lot of guitar done different ways and with different sounds. John probably built all the guitars used on this disc (he teaches luthery to students from around the world several times a year).

A Great Trip
author: Roscoe Armstrong
The debut CD of The Work In Progress Band - Blues Highway is definitly a ride you won't mind taking often. Great Instrumentals - HOPPIN TO THE BOPPIN features SOS Band alumni. Reggie Ward. W-I-P even taps the southern soul genre with A BETTER WOMAN - certifiable hit - all the radio stations need to pick this up - W-I-P getting the blues over the digital era in DIGITAL BLUES and picking up fans along the way in BLIND MAN BLUES. - Not to mention resurecting timeless classics like ROCK ME BABY, CISSY STRUT, AND ALL YOUR LOVE (I MISS LOVING) have a fresh new coat of groove on 'em. - Yeah this is a great trip - Thanks Work In Progress for the ride!!!!!
