In November of 2009 a rehearsal was scheduled for an acoustic ensemble performance of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in Portland, OR. When all but four performers failed to show up, the rehearsal was set aside and a jam session broke out. After a couple of hours the quartet invaded a local pub and got down to some serious hootinanification. 3 hours later, it was clear that a new band had been born.
Kina started writing songs and the band started to forge a style that emphasized the blending of their diverse talents. Glen Anderson happened on the band at the pub they were “born at” and immediately recognized the quality musicianship and infectious enthusiasm surrounding the group. He suggested heading into the studio and laying a few tracks to at least get a feel for what they could produce. The result was so encouraging they decided to move ahead with a full album and began squeezing as much studio time as their busy show schedule would allow. Choosing the title “Through the Mill” for its metaphorical reference to gaining experience Twisted Whistle set out to craft their record. Just about the time the band finished tracking, Glen became a managing partner at Stonemouth Records LLC. He convinced the partners to get behind the Twisted Whistle project as their first full commercial release. Weaving elements of Americana, bluegrass, alt-country and good ol' rock-n-roll into a 10-song showcase of top-notch acoustic musicianship and “endlessly inspiring harmonies” (GratefulWeb,com).
