Among The Ruins 1989 by Lauren Passarelli & Cindy Brown
"From careful observations, I see that this emotional packed CD has been many years in the making. And for good reason; music this exceptional doesn't happen over night. Lauren Passarelli & Cindy Brown have sculptured a musical marvel with Among The Ruins. These nine songs have been beautifully written and executed. There is no filler here. Even the electric finger drums sound good in context to this material. I can't say enough about the unexpected pleasure these two women have sprung on me. I'm only glad that I was able to share the experience. It's wonderful."
~ Metronome Magazine
"Being on top of every aspect of your music takes a lot of time & energy, but doing it right also helps you keep artistic vision intact...Their music is beautiful, well crafted, thoughtful, life affirming and on the folksy side, not to mention very professionally recorded and packaged." - Datman/Home & Studio Recording Magazine
"You did a lot of work, nice job, very personal stuff... a lot of ingenuity and awareness for recording and packaging." - Jay Mark Engineer/Producer
"Smooth, soothing, simple yet mystical vocals open up this trinket box of music by Two Tru. These vocals are backed by equal balance- simple, clean, calming and complimentary in the vein of acoustic, jazz, folk & pop...These women paint an enchanting picture of songs- done intricately, intelligently and poetically... a well done, professional, and enjoyable recording by an evidently serious talented duo." Debbie Catalano - New England Performer Magazine
"I love the vocals and the way the songs come across... a lot of appeal and emotion."
- Jeff Kawalek Engineer/Producer
"Two Tru has combined their impressive talents and musical knowledge to create a socially conscious and musically enthralling collection of songs... refreshing homespun brilliance!." ~ Roland Users Group Magazine
"As you might expect the instrumental performances on this nine song release are flawless and are woven into an introspective breed of poetic soft rock with the ability to touch you on many levels. Lyrically & compositionally, Two Tru is a delight from start to finish." ~ Independent Music Guide
"You definitely have something to offer."
- Alan "Blaze" Blazek Engineer/Producer
"Light contemporary music with high and sincere vocals. Sensitive is the word that springs to mind to describe this music. They are nothing like a girl group but rather a pair of women making emotional music that they feel deeply about. Another Heartsound a song of loneliness is a lovely tune." ~ Mike Gunderloy/Fact Sheet Five
"Among The Ruins is made up of nine fragile songs that sometimes share a feminist theme. The vocals & guitar are the best elements of the record especially on Serious Song & Distant Wind. Changes in sound of the vocals occur in every song and Passarelli's well placed guitar licks keep the music well balanced. The result is very tasteful European Pop.: Bill Jackson, Boston Rock
1994 Among The Ruins is voted best inde release from the U.S. on syndicated, European Radio by the DX Radio Network

The songs are wonderful
author: Arlene Frazer
ATR is Two Tru’s first release. I remember when it first came out & how excited we all were that someone had actually liked a recording they did at home so much that they would release it nationally! These were the days when people made albums & cassettes & here these 2 women made a CD! Very impressive for 1989. Listen to the arrangements & instrumentation. The musical lines & textures are so interesting & this was recorded on a half inch, 8 track, Tascam, reel to reel. One of the first projects I had ever heard that actually used a sync tone flying in virtual midi tracks for a mix. With technology so far from this today it sounds almost silly but in perspective these women were quite ahead of their time, cutting edge & quite successful at it. When you have limited tracks planning is essential. The songs are wonderful even today. Knowing that these women write tons of songs, it’s so cool that they’ve recently released Shadow Language. I look forward to their every move. Check out the instrumental side as well with Lauren’s guitar CD, Back to the Bone, a guitar delight!
