Album Notes

From start to finish, Bittersweet Parade is bursting evidence of Tyler Stenson’s unique ability to craft elegant songs with unparalleled heart and authenticity. Recorded at 8 Ball Studio in Portland, OR, the Elegant Folk album is a storyteller’s journey in a fittingly stripped down format. Autobiographical at its core, Stenson self-produced this celebration of life and the dynamics that accompany the human existence. Chalk full of gripping lyrics, poignant vocals and unforgettable acoustic melodies, the minimalist approach showcases Stenson as an genuine solo artist in an age of typical over-production and studio glitz.

Inspired by a Cormac McCarthy novel, "The Road" is a sparkling lullaby that praises the hand of a past lover while "Great Man’s Funeral" pays a sweet homage to db clay, a once great wallet company that Stenson and his brother started in Portland years ago at the Saturday Market. Concluding the Bittersweet Parade is a majestic song called "Wyoming" – a tribute to Stenson’s place of birth and a scenic anthem that has been recognized by the Governor of Wyoming as a candidate for this year’s Governor’s Art Award.

No matter your mood, no matter your disposition, Bittersweet Parade is a universal record for all humans alike. From the first lyric to the trailing notes, this is an album for the ages and evidence that true artists still exist.

Tyler Stenson is back with, no doubt, one of the best albums of 2010. With his always emotion inducing lyrics at their finest to go along with stellar arrangements and musicianship, Tyler has put together a complete work of art with "Bittersweet Parade". Some standout tracks: an ode to the company that his brother created and both put blood, sweat and tears into in 'Great Man's Funeral', a stirring tribute to his birthplace in 'Wyoming', an homage to the feelings of insomnia in 'I Get No Sleep', and my personal favorite 'Explode'. If you enjoy great folk/Americana music that reminds you of a time when music made you feel something, you NEED to buy this album.

A wonderful song writer and musician. He writes touching lyrics and knows how to connect with his audience. I'd put him up there with Bob Dylan, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz. He is at the top of my list.

All of Tyler's music is great, but this album is hands-down his best comprehensive work to date. It is not always easy to find an album that you can play start to finish without skipping a song, but this is one of them. My personal faves are 'The Road', ' I Get No Sleep', 'You Already Know', 'As the Crow Flies', and 'Wyoming' but all of the songs are sooo good. If you are a lyrics person, this is an album for you- Tyler is an amazing songwriter.

Best New Music I've Heard in Years!

This is the first cd of Tyler Stenson's that I have owned, and I absolutely love it. I think this is the best new music I have heard in years!! His lyrics are so moving, you can feel the emotion in his voice and you can tell these songs came from the heart. "I Get No Sleep" is my favorite, followed closely by "Great Mans Funeral" and "The Road". All three songs brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard them, the beautiful music and Tylers well thought out and meaningful lyrics make for an amazing story that is told through his songs. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about this album, its soooooo good. If you like Ben Harper you will LOVE this album. Definitely better than anything on the radio right now.
