Album Notes

Hymns are often labeled as boring and expected in traditional church services. The Real Book gives a “smooth jazz” flavor to hymns we all grew up with, infusing them with celebration and praise. This CD is the result of four years of inspiration, beginning with the dream to fuse sacred music with jazz. Just picture what the NIV translation did for the King James Version of the Bible and you’ll have some idea. Listening to The Tyson Haynes Project’s version of classic hymns reminds us that worshipping God is all about fun.

The title The Real Book parallels the name of the book that jazz musician’s use which is also called a real book, and has essential jazz tunes or standards. THE “Real Book” that is referred to in this album is the Bible, which contains Jesus’ standards for our lives.

Christianity is about rejoicing. The Real Book expresses just that.

Heartfelt, uplifting worship

I listen to this CD every week while I'm getting ready for church. The new approach to all of these hymns is refreshing and uplifting. My particular favorite is "Lord I want to be a Christian". This version of the song is extremely poignant, and you can tell that the artist is playing this song to his Savior. Love this CD!!

A unique and pleasing blend of traditional hymns and smooth jazz

I purchased this CD because of hearing Tyson play in church. I was quite pleased with the blend of vocal and instramental, espesially the sax. In my opinion, it's very well put together, and very well performed. I also enjoyed hearing my favorite old hymns in a smooth jazz format -- something that I wasn't too sure about at first. I've enjoyed the sound of jazz for a long time, but not the words. This CD put great gospel words to the pleasing sounds of jazz.
