Emmanuel Abiteboul AKA U-Nam
U-NAM began playing the guitar at age twelve, studying for three years at the CIM (1st European school for jazz) between 1986 and 1989. At the age of nineteen he turned professional, becoming a regular on Paris studio sessions. At age twenty four he released a solo album on the american funk label, Lakeside Music (Bobby Byrd, The Meters, Buddy Miles...), a clever mix of jazz guitar, funk, soul and hip hop. He has devoted himself exclusively to songwriting, production and remixes working for national artists such as Organiz', Ophelie Winter, Houcine (Star Academy TV Show),Sofiane (Star Academy 4 ) and international acts such as Barry White, Honeyz, Luis Fonsi, Alsou, Kool & the Gang, Billy Paul , Before Dark and CNote.
In 2005 U-Nam released his album ‘THE PAST BUILDS THE FUTURE’. Dusty Groove had this to say about it:
“ U-Nam's got a sweetly melodic touch on the guitar that takes us back to the sparkle of George Benson's best soul-based recordings of the 70s -- a warmly colorful approach to the groove that's mixed here with some of the deeper styles of production bubbling under from the Neo Soul scene, and which makes the record a fair bit hipper than the usual smooth jazz outings.
Now U-Nam is back with a brand new ambitious project , involvin' US and French artists including keyboard Legend JEFF LORBER . The brand new album is more focused on his guitar with an impressive line-up of world-renowned musicians : Jeff Lorber , Paulinho DaCosta (Michael Jackson,Quincy Jones) , Michael White (George Benson , MAZE) ,Alex Al (Stevie Wonder) , Maysa Leak (Incognito) , Steve Harvey (The Temptations ,Donnie) , Melvin Davis (Chaka Khan) . This album is called Back From The 80s . Inspired by the music and musicians that U-Nam was listening to when he was a kid back in the early 80s .
Also coming in 2007, U-Nam is finishing his alter-ego vocal R&B/Soul project called The One Soul Concept featuring todays greatest Soul voices !!! Rahsaan Patterson / Myron / Maysa Leak and more.

Fresh & Energetic!
author: Smoothjazz.com Review
I’m always fascinated with the difference between musical competence and the kind of musicianship that creates monster hits. I think what it comes down to is a combination of strong, compelling compositions, a brilliant support team, and perhaps most importantly, a positive vibe that’s a perfect match for the times. Enter native Parisian U-Nam (Real name – Emmanuel Abiteboul – “Manu” for short -- Note the reversal for his stage name U-Nam) and his new album BACK FROM THE 80’s. It’s got all the ingredients, and it’s gonna be a smash. It’s really the quintessential Smooth Jazz guitar album for today, with all the ingredients I just mentioned locked solidly in place. U-Nam’s main musical influence is George Benson, which will be immediately apparent when you hear his playing. George himself has got to be impressed! I certainly am. This is an awesome collection of tunes, from the first hit single (a killer remake of the Crusader’s classic “Street Life,” featuring Jeff Lorber on Fender Rhodes) to an absolutely stunning instrumental version of the Benson hit “Turn Your Love Around.” Actually there’s not a single track on this disc that doesn’t deserve airplay. This is a totally fresh, energetic tour de force into some 80’s nostalgia and tasty originals… all with a very hip musical patina. U-Nam calls his music “Classy, Jazzy, Funky, Frenchy.” I call it essential for this format right now. If you’re a Smooth Jazz programmer and you’re not playing something from BACK FROM THE 80’s on your station, then your programmer’s license should be revoked! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
