A lot of people talk about Doomsday when the entire human population over the globe will be completely wiped out. But even if that actually happens, many scientists believe that some creatures would survive the crisis and live on.
The champion of such creatures would be cockroaches!
There are so many species and they come in various colors and sizes.
Some can fly quite a distance since their wingspan can be like 30 cm!!
I used to hate cockroaches. Just the sight of one made me run around trying to smash its head. But one incident changed my mind, not that I love them now, but I have a kind of a fondness towards them.
I was eating “yakitori” (Japanese chicken and vegetables on bamboo sticks and grilled with special sauce) when I noticed a cockroach climbing up the wall of the store. I immediately tried to grab the nearest magazine (my friend was reading one) and squash it. Then, I noticed that it wasn’t alone.
There must have been at least half a dozen more. But, these extra ones were so tiny! Yes, it was the mother cockroach crossing the wall with her siblings.
The tiny roaches looked exactly like their mother, only smaller, miniature size.
They were so cute! I just stared at them and watched them disappear onto the other side of the wall.
This incident prompted me to write a song. The result was this song.
But I still hate cockroaches. I don’t want a single roach in my room, in my house, in my life. But they say a single female roach can produce about 150 tiny roaches a year. At that rate, it isn’t hard for them to dominate our life.
They say, if you spot one single cockroach in your room, that represents about 10 roaches in the house (to be conservative). At the rate they multiply, it won’t take long until you feel like crying out, “Gokiburi, Go Away!
Oh, not incidentally, “Gokiburi” is Cockroach in Japanese.
Just one word of advice. If you listen to this song several times, the melody will stick in your mind for sure.
And this melody will be played back over and over, even in the middle of the night.
The tune is so catchy, you simply cannot resist mumbling the words, Gokiburi, Go Away!
Good luck!!
