uncle's institution is egil olsen from norway's solo / band project. his new album, walkie talk to me, is a playful and inviting album about hunting girls, trying to have a good time, dreaming about the perfect wife, about feeling like a wuss or a girl if you like, about being on the edge of insanity, about thinking you love someone, about pure joy and happiness, about the treasures in the trash, about being fed up and angry, about moving on and about being yourself, do what you want and trust what you do, because it's magic.
"it was time to have some fun. walkie talk to me is funny, quirky and playful, but still very serious and honest. i always try to make something real, even though i with walkie talk to me tried to make stiff, simple and cartoonish pop music; almost a little unreal... but fun."
some of the songs on walkie talk to me were for the first time recorded over 3 years ago. about 30 songs were written for this album and many of them were recorded in up to 5 different versions.
"i wanted to take my time on this album. play, learn a lot of new stuff, enjoy and try many things out. i'm sort of a cross between a little child who never wants to stop playing and a very picky perfectionist. that resulted in many versions of most of the songs on the album as well as tons of unused ideas and several songs that did not get included."
on stage uncle's institution often perform as a band. about 30 musicians have been involved since day 1. now egil olsen wants to focus on performing solo. when i am alone i'm bad to the bone sings a confident egil olsen on the otherwise insecure song like a girl.
"in 2004 i toured norway with the solo show i'm a real bad mother alone with acoustic guitar, bass pedals and drum machines. it was bravo! and with all these new songs it can hopefully only get more bravo! it's time to tour myself to death!"
the first single from walkie talk to me, the hit single babe, was released earlier this summer to great reviews and has already become one of the live favourites. actually the whole album is pretty much hits and favourites.
"i like to think of walkie talk to me as a hit-parade, and now i'm trying to make music videos for all the songs, every hit deserves a music video."
walkie talk to me is out in norway august 29th. you can keep yourself, your family and your friends updated, entertained and stimulated at www.unclesinstitution.com with behind the music, exclusives, info and bravo.

this album is great...it is quirky, fun, smart, and not too serious...in fact, not serious at all. which, as this and other albums prove, can be a very very good thing. and judging from Mike Gray's review...if your last name is Gray, you will love it. check this out, now!!!

Uncle's institution is kinda like Beck...but not TOO MUCH!
He also can sound like Prince at times. But he REALLY is an original artist that love lots of different types of music...and it ALL has influenced his style!
This is one very good CD!
