First, the exact introduction from the inside sleeve, written in 1994:
LIVE FROM UNCOMMON GROUND
Since conception 3 years ago, Uncommon Ground has has been presenting live music 3 nights a week. During that time some amazing singer/songwriters have entertained thousands. Too often local artists go unnoticed, entertaining audiences in smaller coffeehouses in Chicago. It is time for for these artists to get the recognition they deserve.
Many artists can not afford to produce a CD of their own, others could never distribute the minimum of 1,000 CDs required for a pressing. This was the perfect time to give these artists the opportunity to be involved in a Co-op CD and to document a time in Chicago coffeehouse history.
This is a project I have been working on for the past 6 months, and with the help of some wonderful people was able to put it all together. More importantly without you, the listening audience, we would never had a demand for such a CD. Enjoy the tracks to follow. I do believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for listening.
Michael Cameron
Pulling out this CD and listening again, nearly a decade later... These are some of the best artists in Chicago, not only in 1994, but to this day.
Some are not in the exact same groups, but virtually every artist on this CD has grown incredibly and is still wowing audiences throughout Chicago (and the rest of the world).
Nothing on this CD sounds "dated" -- If you've never heard of these artist, or even if you have but never caught this CD the first time around, you are in for a real treat! Preview the tracks now, and click on Buy!
Uncommon Ground has grown and recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary.
The music presentations have expanded from 3 nights a week to every single night of the week, day in and day out -- My back of the envelope calculations put the combined audience over 100,000 people!
It's time (past time, really) for volume 2. But first, we're happy to bring you volume 1 back from our archives.
Enjoy!
