Album Notes

Undadogg

A female fronted, five piece Toronto band, incorporating downtempo trip hop, indie alt-pop/rock, dark atmospherics, hints of drum and bass and break beats, moody melodies, heartbreaking lyrics and sultry vocals, UNDADOGG‘s sound is familiar, but refreshingly unique and difficult to forget. Formed in 1998, UNDADOGG is singer/lyricist Andrea Lucarelli, twin brothers Ruben-guitar, and Remi Miguez-drums, and keyboardist Christian Kada who have all been playing together since high school, and newest member bassist Rene Rodriguez.

UNDADOGG have just completed their new recordings with the help of a FACTOR demo grant they were awarded earlier this year. The band plans to tour and shop the new material to the Canadian, US and European markets.

Presently, UNDADOGG are gigging regularly, in and around Toronto, Montreal and surrounding cities. UD was recently nominated for “BEST INDIE BAND” at this years Ontario Independent Music Awards and their track “Butterfly Disease” was also nominated for “BEST ROCK SONG”, “BEST ROCK GROUP” and “BEST ROCK WEBSITE” in the 2007 Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards Online.

UNDADOGG’s live performance is definitely their strength, and always satisfies their ever-growing fan base. Appealing to an odd mismatch of trip hop/electronic fans, hip hoppers, goths, indie rockers and even punks, UNDADOGG create a mood that sets them apart from the masses. Music lovers and critics are easily won over after seeing UNDADOGG perform: “They can pull off sexiness without being raunchy. They’re just plain cool” - Chart Attack CMW Review, “sexy enough to seemingly be the audio equivalent of thigh high stockings” - Smother Magazine.

UNDADOGG can also accommodate to smaller, more intimate venues by playing stripped down and acoustic, incorporating upright bass, djembe, acoustic guitar, accordion and xylophone.

UNDADOGG have released 3 independent discs to date; “Ano De Dolor” (1999) “Jinx” (2005) and the brand new “Jinxed“ (2007) EP, featuring new songs, remixes and bonus cuts. The previous releases have sold very well and continue to receive great support from college and Internet radio, and UNDADOGG hope the new disc, being professionally recorded with the help of FACTOR, will have even greater success and get them the notice they deserve! Lead Singer Andrea has also just released a 3 song CD single collaboration entitled “Breathe“ with Toronto DJ duo Version Xcursion. The track debuted at #1 on CKLN’s electronic chart.

Over the years UNDADOGG have gained respect, credibility and established themselves as one of the few bands in Toronto doing something different. Playing the live circuit in a sea of punk, metal and rock, UNDADOGG’s music can’t help but stand out and get noticed. Known for their captivating style, stage presence and alluring live shows; this band always leaves you wanting more…

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT UNDADOGG...

“Sexy enough to seemingly be the audio equivalent of Thigh high stockings.”
- J-Sin, Smother Magazine

“A 5-piece, female-fronted, trip-hop band that is as dark and moody as it is hard rockin’.”
- Chart attack Magazine

“They’re the type of band that can set the stage full of candles without putting the audience to sleep. With heavy bass lines mixed with trippy drum beats and a sultry, sexy voice, how can you go wrong? They pull off sexiness without having to be dirty or raunchy. They're just plain cool.”
- Manuela Spizzirri, Chart attack Magazine, Canadian Music Week Live Review

“Massive attack meets garbage and has a baby!”
- MarsGreen, garageband.com

“I found myself hypnotized by this erotic voice and in a trance by the rest of the bands instruments. I was reminded of great bands like The Cardigans or even No Doubt (before Gwen’s Holla Back Girl) I was locked!!!”
- Christopher "Alleyne" Rudder, Pulp Magazine

“Undadogg’s tales are reminiscent of the melancholy feeling of sadness present when two lovers part ways. It's great music to relax to on a hazy Sunday afternoon."
- Shine, Klublife Magazine

“There is an assured sexiness about the music and vocals, and a strong will behind each note and passion throughout to support the fact that whatever they bring forth next will be worth investigating.”
- Steven Hurst- www.glassswerk.co.uk

“This group actually left me wanting more. I almost peed my pants when I heard great musicians and a great singer in the same band!”
- Vanessa Bruno, Chart Attack Magazine- Canadian Music Week Live Review

“I imagine hearing this band in a hipster club where everyone wears black, and the most popular drink is vermuth..”
- SnackWheat- garageband.com

“Undadogg’s blend of blessed-out trip-hop beats and sweeping, sultry vocals should have no problem crossing the border!”
Editor’s Review, Download.com

“This Toronto band puts 'heartbreak trip hop' on his signboard. 'Slow rock music with trippin potential', we enjoyed very much their open-minded approach to music.
- Triphop.hu

“Andreas voice is very delightful to hear and her performance is filled with emotion.
Overall Undadogg's sound is an interesting mix of traditional rockpop and triphop elements. Definitely enough to stand out from the crowd.”

This Toronto band puts 'heartbreak trip hop' on his signboard.

This Toronto band puts 'heartbreak trip hop' on his signboard. 'Slow rock music with trippin potential' more like, but we enjoyed very much their open-minded approach to music. Singer/lyricist Andrea Lucarelli is definitely determining the moody musical world of Undadogg, who just released its 'Jinx' EP. Check their website and keep your ears close, especially to 'Butterfly disease'.

“Jinx” is a great album that is sexy enough to seemingly be the audio equivalent
author: j-sin, smother.net
Taking their cue from Portishead, Canadian-based trip-hop group Undadogg boasts a female crooner who has tremendous range amid stylistic trip-hop. Perfect for lounges or just hanging around the house doing chores, “Jinx” is a great album that is sexy enough to seemingly be the audio equivalent of knee high stockings. The only problem you’ll have with this EP is that it’s so short—we need more damn it!

I am so glad I have Jinx in my cd collection! I am a huge trip hop fan and there is definitely a lack of new trip hop cd's these days. Jinx is mellow and intense, groovy and melodic with a great female vocal. One of the best indipendent cd's Ive heard in a long time.
