notes
Dark rock innovators Unfinished Thought bring you a story...
...of never ending sleep
...of forever deepening concern
...of unavoidable consequence
A story that cleverly shifts back and forth through time revealing the tragic details that have led to the mysterious disappearance of an unforgettable individual. The Timid is a lonely recluse unsuccessfully managing his own mental instability and deepening depression. When a series of seemingly random events bring him face to face with the chance to take his own life or start anew in a memoryless world, he must decide his final destination before fate chooses for him. Based On Actual Events chronicles the last days of The Timid's life as he battles unimaginable coincidence, cruel circumstance, accidental insanity, hopeless insignificance and the frightening vulnerability that is naturally created by the presence of human thought.
Following up on the unexpected independent success of their 2002 debut album, Becoming Aware, dark rock perfectionists Unfinished Thought have returned with an album that solidifies the duo's status as one of independent music's most original and creative forces. Based On Actual Events is a genre defying collection of songs that spotlights the unparalleled precision and forceful elegance that defines Unfinished Thought's decidedly unique sound.
Stacey Nelson's magnetic voice demands unconditional emotional attention while at the same time stealing hope from any thought that once resembled a happy ending. From a soft whisper to a soaring three part harmony, her vocal talents glide each song to completely perfect dimensions. Unfinished Thought's unconventional song structure lends itself well to the compelling lyrics that carefully decorate each track on this dark, schizophrenic album. At times seeming to barely be able to manage their own perceived randomness and at other times in complete understanding of the premeditated confusion that created them, the lyrics fall delicately into a soundscape of threatening synthesizers and razor sharp bass lines. These elements combine with crashing walls of distorted guitars and multiple layers of intricate rhythm to produce a sound that breathes freshness into the state of modern independent music.
Based On Actual Events is a progressively precise turning point for the unconventional mind that can't quite come in from the rain. It's thoughtful. It's careful. It calculated, unique. It's about being lonely. It's about passing time. It's about the reasons you're still thinking through. It's a shade from every angle and it's all coming true.
Unfinished Thought Background Information:
Following up on the unexpected independent success of their 2002 debut album, Becoming Aware, dark rock innovators Unfinished Thought have returned with an album that solidifies the duo's status as one of independent music's most original and creative forces. Their brand new release, Based On Actual Events, is a genre defying collection of songs that spotlights the unparalleled precision and forceful elegance that defines Unfinished Thought's decidedly unique sound. "Uniqueness has been a blessing and a curse for us" explains producer/multi-instrumentalist Joe Kiser. "Every band wants to say that they sound like nothing you've ever heard before. Obviously comparisons can be drawn between any two given sounds, but our music tends to drift freely between multiple genres. I think we have more of the 'nothing you've ever heard before' element than most bands that have surfaced in the past several years."
Combining the more abrasive elements of dark wave, industrial, electronica, metal and goth with the more melodic components of etherealism, ambient, dark rock, and even pop music, Unfinished Thought have crafted a sound all their own. "Our audience tends to find their way to us through the darker channels like goth and industrial, but quickly realize that we have a lot more going on than most bands in those genres" continues Kiser.
Released in April of 2004, Based On Actual Events shows an acoustic maturity and unexpected evolution for Unfinished Thought. With concise, intelligent song arrangements and a concept album feel, the new release from Unfinished Thought highlights the strengths of the previous album while introducing the depths to which this duo is unafraid to explore. A brand new DVD was also released in April 2004 containing a unique and stirring video for the new song "Umbrella".
With two albums on record and a steadily growing fan base to support them, Unfinished Thought now turn their focus to the live stage. Rehearsals have begun for shows slated to begin in Fall 2004. As the buzz surrounding this duo continues to grow daily, Unfinished Thought are proud to look back on their past successes and look forward to propelling themselves further into the forefront of modern independent music.

Stacey has such a passionate and beautiful voice. Everyone involved in the music of this cd has my respect. This is one of those albums that is difficult to remove from your cd player...Wow!
One Of My Favorites in My CD Collection
author: LeslieThis is one of my favorite cds in my cd collection as well as the first. I recommend UT's first cd also. Stacey and Joe Kiser did such a great job on this album and I suggest you add this into your collection. Stacey's voice is haunting and BEAUTIFUL. UT kinda reminds me of a brand new version of Evanescence. Check this out for yourself! You'll be surprised... Also check out their new Exits EP digital download at their website ;)

Actual Events must lead to good music
author: superxero2004@yahoo.comWhat's to say? Coming Back will have you coming back for more. You'll go Through Crowded Rooms to get to one of the best songs on it, Umbrella. You'll stay Perfectly Still listening to Perfectly Still. I can't think of anymore word plays. Seriously, this CD is AWESOME!!! Even if you love bluegrass/old time blues, listen to this. It will change your whole mind on what you think about rock/goth/alternative. I hope everyone who reads this or knows about the band will get this. There is no way that you will listen to this thing all the way through and get dissapointed.
Gothic Greatness
author: KenDark, and eerie. Mix of melody and lyrics is so perfect.
Sounds mysteriously familiar and new at the same time.
author: LinaI think the fact that the work is "uncooked and unprocessed" makes it reach deeper than many of the commercialized, approval-hungry bands out there today. I commend UT for stimulating my mind with thought-provoking lyrics and for challenging established formulas of sound with an intricacy belonging only to them. I used up an entire set of batteries on this album alone (primarily because I couldn't get enough of Perfectly Still and Silhouette). This is an excellent follow-up of the first album. I look foreword to more masterpieces in the future!

Definitley worth checking out and listening to numerous times!
author: imaxrangerdoug@yahoo.comI find this most interesting as the album cover befits the production of the tunes. Dark vocals with chantish and mantraic qualities are present through out almost all works. There a a number of very dancable tunes. I was pleasantly surprized.

quickly obsessed with this band, extremely great music
author: UfgoodiesUnfinished Thought Is a truly amazing band who's music is not quite like anyone i've heard before. The mixture of the different styles of music is something that i have not heard before. The music is absolutely breath taking. Stacey Nelson, the main vocalist, has such a beautifull voice, that the very first time i heard the album i was hooked. Unfinished Thought has quickly become one of my favorite groups due to the fact that they have Made this album like nothing else i have ever heard. Every song has a different style, and they still made their entire album great. No need for program buttons with this CD as it was all amazing. In Finishing i would like to say that Unfinished Thought is a truly amazing band and if you would like to hear some more of their music a great place to find their music would be their website at www.unfinishedthrought.com . I am more then happy to give this band 5/5 stars
Amazing second release from an astonishing band.
author: Ashley LarsonAs a second album from this astounding band, Unfinished Thought shows that they have not only grown musically, but that they are ready to exceeded their predecessors. This band truly shows their strength in this amazing second album. The enchanting vocals will surely render one speechless, while the intense musical blend creates a perfect harmony. Each track has its own intense message, and they are all conveyed so beautifully and in their very own diverse ways. From a haunting gothic ballad to an industrial rush, Unfinished Thought has most certainly mastered several aspects of emotion with this album.
Shockingly beautiful sophmore album
author: CathrynUnfinished Thought's sophmore album exceeded my expectations... following their first, Becoming Aware, I didn't think it could improve as much as it did. They grew as a band and musically it's just as unique and shocking as the first. It has a range of different songs that include piano ballads and darker heavier music. The CD is an experience and enlightening mentally, musically, and it is like no other.
- author: Yvonne Glasgow - Music Revue Magazine
Unfinished Thought portrays what all music should strive for - excellent vocals, driving instrumentation and a sound that makes you NEED to listen. Unfinished Thought have a great edge. They have an interesting outlook and their music is way above par. Don't hesitate to check out this CD!
Superb!
author: Leith NowederIf you like Evanescence and Unfinished Thought's first CD, Becoming Aware, you'll love Based on Actual Events. It's superb. Joe Kiser and Stacey Nelson are musical masters. Stacey's vocals are mesmerizing and the music is auditory gold. This CD puts UT to the number 1 spot on my Best Musicians list, right above Evanescence.
This disc is the next evolution of unbridled rock!
author: Adam Tibbott - Tainted ImagezPropelled between the nuance of delicate, angelically ethereal harmonies and compulsively aggressive guitar playing, the music Industrial-Goth-Rock duo Unfinished Thought creates on 'Based On Actual Events' is a complicated and layered environment. A difficult achievement for musicians with decades of experience and rarely achieved multiple times by the same band. Their powerful sound is built on intensely haunting vocals and genre defying riffs and beats. Arrangements shift through an umbra of full-on industrial noise to orchestrated Goth rock and back to a soft whimper or the musical equivalent of a banshee's wail. They may have struggled to find a sound they could solidify as their own, even though it seems to have flawlessly found them. Influenced by musicians the likes of Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails, Unfinished Thought have been compared to the likes of Evanescence, Kidneythieves and Italian industrial act Lacuna Coil. Note also, none of the bands UT's sound is compared to have been listed as influences by the band members. This disc is the next evolution of unbridled rock, with a hint of industrial flair and a pinch of Goth for intensity.
