ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
001. ALWAYS PLUGGIN' IN `N PUNKIN' OUT [THIS IS UNIVERSE87] by Capt. Futura - 4:44
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** Capt. Futura is the alias of T. William (Billy) Cory. Billy has served as a co-producer with Stratos on Autumnal Slumber, CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack, Deterioration Furthers, and Universe87. Billy has also served as co-writer on Deterioration Furthers and several projects slated for 2006 release. Billy & Bryan (aka Stratos) became friends through playing d20 Star Wars Roleplaying and the friendship has expanded to include all sorts of gaming for Mongoose Publishing and music composition and sound design under the Bailey Records label.

002. A WORLD ASUNDER by Stratos - 4:59
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** Stratos is the alias of Bryan K. Borgman. "A World Asunder" is a soundscape of a bleak cyberpunk tomorrow... the basis of the Universe87 Campaign Setting for modern roleplaying games.

003. DARKRIDER TRIUMPHANT by Stratos - 4:47
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** The Darkrider conquers the world of Universe87! Part three in the "Darkrider Trilogy", the sinister Darkrider character first made his debut on Autumnal Slumber ("Enter Darkrider [extended mix]", 2003 Bailey Records) and returned to the battle on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack ("Darkrider Returneth", 2004 Bailey Records). Complete NPC game stats, bio, and specialized weapons for The Darkrider appear inside the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack booklet.

004. FALSE REALITIES by Stratos - 4:01
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** The title and theme of this song is inspired by the metaphysics of Philip K. Dick. These days we're almost bored by the idea that reality is just a construct - neuroscience, postmodernism, and The Matrix have made sure of that. But Dick remains the supreme mythmaker of the false reality. His 1959 novel, Time Out of Joint, was the original Truman Show, while his 1964 book, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, describes a society that succumbs to permanent hallucination. Faced with such illusions, Dick's characters - much like those in Universe87 - have to ask, "What is real?" because their lives (and sanity) are on the line. This is proof-positive why Hollywood loves him: P.K. Dick turned metaphysics into a whodunit.

005. VS. by Stratos - 4:06
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** Point Number Two in the Metaphysics of P.K. Dick is Human vs. Machine. Dick wanted to know how, in a technological society, we can recognize the authentically human. He saw the line between people and machines becomes hopelessly blurred. So his human characters often behave like cruel robots, while spunky gadgets - like the automatic cabbie in Now Wait for Last Year - can be sources of wisdom and kindness. And in The Electric Ant, when businessman Garson Poole discovers that he is actually an android, he doesn't despair. Instead, he begins to reprogram himself. "Vs." was written in such a way as to capture the organic vs. techno styles of Stratos' music palette.

006. ENTROPY by Stratos - 4:15
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** One thing you learn from drug addiction, five marriages, and a visionary imagination is how easily your world can fall apart. Perhaps this was why Philip K. Dick was obsessed with how things decay. He even invented a word for one of entropy's most ordinary manifestations: "kipple," which he defined as all the useless junk that creeps into our daily lives, like junk mail and gum wrappers and old newspapers. Don't bother fighting it - "Dick's First Law of Kipple states that "Kipple drives out nonkipple." In the Universe87 Campaign Setting the streets - the urban sprawl - is infested with debris, graffiti, and discarded pieces... with kipple.

007. THE NATURE OF GOD by Stratos - 4:33
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** P.K. Dick was a garage philosopher, an autodidact who read voraciously in religion and metaphysics. Sometimes his speculations leaked into everyday life. In 1974, undergoing a psychotic and/or mystical break, Dick encountered a cosmic force he later call Valis, which stands for Vast Active Living Intelligence System - a cybernetic god of sorts. But keep on your toes: To sneak into our fallen world, Valis must disguise itself as TV ads or trash - or pulpy sci-fi entertainment.

008. SOCIAL CONTROL by Stratos - 5:13
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** Philip K. Dick was always pretty paranoid. But when thieves broke into his home in 1971, it sent him over the edge. Soon he came to belive that all political tyrannies were facets of one cosmic oppressor: the Black Iron Prison, a timeless archetype that he associated with the Roman Empire. Dick sometimes thought that history was an illusion and that the Nixon administration's dirty tricks only proved that "The Empire never ended". In Universe87, the tyrannical Darkrider rules the underworld with a cybernetic iron fist!

009. KILOMETRIC ECSTASY [MADDOX’S JOYRIDE MIX] by Capt. Futura - 4:52
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** One of the core heroic characters of Universe87 is a P.I. names Maddox. Maddox is into fast motorcycles, smooth cigars, and hot chicks! Both the original version of "Kilometric Ecstasy" and it's remix found here are fast-paced, driving songs inspired by Maddox's actions on the streets.

010. ANDROID HUNTER by Stratos - 4:45
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** Inspired by Blade Runner, "Android Hunter" is also a sequel to the song "Nexus-6 No More" found on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack. Where "Nexus-6 No More" draws on imagery from the replicants' perspective, "Android Hunter" is all about those fine men and women dedicated to tracking and eliminating the rogue synthetic life found on the streets and dark alleyways of Universe87.

011. DREAMING OF CYBERSPACE [HAJAS MIX] by Hajas - 3:58
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** Freddy Hajas, a top-producer from Brazil, first collaborated with Bailey Records on the Deterioration Furthers horror soundtrack. On both that CD and this, Hajas serves as a remix artist putting his own unique spin on a Stratos original. Stratos first met Hajas in cyberspace over at SlothMusic.com.

012. TECHNO-CRIMINAL SUBCULTURES [THETA FREQUENCY MIX] by Theta Frequency - 6:31
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** Theta Frequency, aka Dan Raridan, is a recording artist from Ohio. This is his first collaboration with Bailey Records. Stratos met Theta Frequency in cyberspace over at the forums at FutureMusic.com.

013. SONIK DISTURBANCES [TRISTRAUM MIX] by Tristraum - 5:35
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** Tristraum is a top-producer in the Southwestern USA. This is their first collaboration with Bailey Records. Stratos hooked up with Tristraum in cyberspace over at SlothMusic.com.

014. ANGELIC JUSTICE by K&K Productions - 4:00
** Copyright 2004 K&K Productions (Keith Brauer Jr. & Brandan M. Paulin)
** This duo will be going places very soon! Stratos hooked up with K&K Productions via the internet at AcidPlanet.com.

015. LIFE IN THE BIG `PLEX by Stratos - 4:04
** Copyright 2005 Winged Warrior Publishing (ASCAP)
** In the world of Universe87 the populace live in gigantic cities called megaplexes that sprawl across the countryside devouring all little towns and villages in their paths. This song was written as a soundscape of the bleak tomorrow.

016. PATTERN RECOGNITIONS by Capt. Futura - 2:56
** Copyright 2005 TW Cory Music Publishing (ASCAP)
** An original tune by Capt. Futura, "Pattern Recognitions" pays homage to William Gibson (Father of Cyberpunk) while at the same time displaying an aural array of familiarity through patterns. If androids, replicants, or robots are part of your campaign... this song is for them!

017. SUMMER IN THE SPRAWL [CHINESE THEATRE MIX] by Chinese Theatre - 4:01
** Copyright 2004 Bailey Records - Original Version appears on the CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack by Stratos
** Rounding out the remixes, Chinese Theatre from Sweden throws his hand in the mix and delivers a fantastic finale to this soundtrack. This is the first collaboration between Chinese Theatre and Bailey Records but surely not the last. Stratos and Chinese Theatre met online at SlothMusic.com.

Brilliant cyber rock album!!!
I git this album because I was hooked on the riff in Darkrider Triumphant, but the rest of the album did not let me down either. The riffs, beats and rhythms are all excellent, and the melodies really make you feel like you're in the middle of a cyberpunk/sci-fi movie if you close your eyes. If you like the track previews buty the album. If you like the album, buy Stratos' other albums because they are all good. Use this in almost all of my SF RPG games as background.
