ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Early 2012, five Dutch musicians got together to form a symphonic rock band they later called Unsealed. All with different (musical) backgrounds, all equally motivated to create a fresh sound. The repertoire distinguishes itself with the unique combination of classical violin together with both clean and distorted guitar. Mix that up with clean, high pitch vocals, groovy bass and eclectic drums and you have the sound that is Unsealed.

In fall 2012 the band had written enough songs to fill a complete album so they decided to hit the studio and start recording. After a lot of hard work in that studio we can now enjoy the exciting debut album of Unselad, called ‘Humanity’. It consists of 11 tracks, including one acoustic bonus track. The album was recorded in Studio JP, Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.
Besides recording, it was time for Unsealed to present their music to a live audience, on stage. January 2013 Unsealed enjoyed their stage debut in Rayland, Rhoon where everything was recorded for RTV Radio. The songs and interviews from this first gig were played live on air.

Soon after this stage debut Unsealed played at ‘Winterfest’ in The The Hague Popcenter (HPC). An exciting festival which had several stages and featured over 50 bands from a variaty of genres.
At both live shows, Unsealed’s music was very well received as being fresh, melodic and original. For Unsealed this is only the beginning, they plan on hitting the stage many more times. In February their first videoclip will be recorded. Further, they are working on new songs and steady developing their repertoire and exploring new sounds.

Members:

Vocals
Daphne Gobius du Sart

Singing and writing music as long as she can remember, Daphne started out in a classical children’s choir. After that she enjoyed private lessons in both pop and classical training. Famous Floor Jansen was amongst her teachers. Her band history goes back to 2006 when she first joined symphonic metal band Evil’s Desire. In 2012 she decided to start up her own rock band and asked Sarie if she would join. They wrote brand new songs and started to look for band members. And thus Unsealed was born! In Unsealed she is the lead vocalist and writes songs and lyrics. Besides Unsealed, she enjoys working out and traveling. Of course she enjoys listening to bands, mostly rock and metal. And she has a thing for horror and vampire shows such as True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Dexter.

Favourite Unsealed song: "Persistence of Loss"
Favourite city: "The Hague" — Her home town, closely followed by Venice ;)
Would love to do a gig: with "Rammstein", loves the shows filled with fireworks!!

Violin
Sarie Lensen

When she was 9, Sarie started to play the violin and took violin lessons. After a few years she also started to play with an classical orchestra. After 9 years of lessons she went to study and stopped playing the violin. During her studies, she missed playing the violin, though she really wanted to play the violin, she didn’t exactly know how to start playing again. Then Daphne came to her with the idea to start their own rock band. They started to play together and looked for other band members. At the start, the switch from classic music to rock music was a bit difficult to get used to. With the other members they found, the rock band Unsealed was complete and ready to Rock! In Unsealed Sarie is the violist. She enjoys to meet with friends and watch series like Dexter and Lost. She also loves children and animals. On top of that she likes to listen to music, and making her own!

Favourite Unsealed song: "Kellerman's Tale"
Favourite city: "Barcelona"
Would love to do a gig: with "Coldplay"

Guitar
Lex van der Zwaal

When Lex was 15, he got his first guitar from his brother, an classical guitar. He taught himself how to play. After a year he bought his first electric guitar, a fake Stratocaster. Everyday he practised and practised until his fingers almost bled. A few years and a lot of guitar playing later, he posted an advertisement on the internet that he was looking for a band to make songs, and he was very motivated to work hard. He has played in several bands, 2 cover-bands, a death metal band and a rock-band. Also, he has been playing as a reserve guitarist in case other guitarist were sick or couldn't perform. Daphne contacted him to jam with the band, which they did, successfully. He likes playing every style in music, blues, rock, jazz, funk, pop, metal etc. But above all he loves to play heavy metal, it can fuel you after a shitty day or can help you lose aggression. Besides playing guitar you can find him in pubs and music bars with live performances, or of course at concerts. He is studying Graphic Design.

Favourite Unsealed song: "Fight For Me"
Favourite guitar: "B.C. Rich Ironbird"
Would love to do a gig: at "The Wembley Stadium"

Bass
Sander van de Merwe

Sander van de Merwe is a man of many talents. At this moment he plays the guitar, piano, as well as the bass. It all started when he was about 14 years old, listening to Nirvana and Yngwie Malmsteen and thinking it would be great if he could play like that. He decided to take guitar lessons and developed an interest in creating his own music. He felt it would be useful to learn to play the piano, to better express himself musically. And so he took lessons (which he still does) and studies mostly Bach, to technically challenge himself further. Sander owns a small home-studio where he composes his own music. He has particular interest in the beauty of noise. A sample of his productions can be found here. He hopes to give a proper interpretation to the bass in the songs, so that the parts speak for itself and stand on it’s own, as well as blend in with the rest.

Favourite Unsealed song: it’s a tie between "The Rodent" and "Fight For Me".
Would love to perform with: Rob Zombie or Trent Reznor.

Drums
Jack Ophof

Jack got his first crappy drum-kit from his mom when he was 17 or so, and tried to be all cool with his friends trying to cover NOFX and Red Hot Chilli Peppers' songs. Then after a few months there was this short 10-year-break in which he could only dream of drums, because he didn't own one anymore.. Then, when he got his first electronic kit, he practiced until his limbs were on fire. After a while he tried to spend some more time on rudiments, polyrhythms and open-handed playing. When he felt ready, he just popped open his browser and hunted for rock bands who were influenced by Muse somehow. Jack ultimately ended up with this band that included a violin in it's music, which was an interesting aspect all together. It was a challenge. The first time he auditioned for Unsealed, they were impressed with the grooves he added to their compositions and decided to take him on board. They cycled through a few guitarist before settling with the perfect one. Since that moment Unsealed was making it's first baby-steps. Awww, how cute !

Favourite Unsealed song: Persistence of Loss, Wasted Love
Favourite book: "Gödel, Escher, Bach"
Favourite concept: Quantum Physics
Love to do a gig: Yes !
