Album Notes

Since 1993, UPhold's Muffy St. Bernard has worked with Jim DeJong (The Infant Cycle), Neb Rakic (AER), Eli McIlveen (Flickershow), Detlef Burghardt (Fond of the Drone) and Jade (8-Bit Logik), as well as certain unknowing participants who shall remain in-the-dark forever.

These releases have tended to involve heavy sequencing, spontaneous noise, sound collages, spoken-word speechifying and the occasional cover song.

"Roade" consists of two extended compositions, diametrically opposed to each other but united by the theme of pedestrian travel. The first, "Road to Avondale," is a summer chill-out walk through the city; simple beats, keyboards, a relaxed journey from "here" to "there.

The second composition, "On Your Way Out," is a confused tribute to the dead. The walk continues through the darker side of the city with more emphasis on found sounds and field recordings. Frosty, it's the voice of ice and alienation and burial.

Both songs were written and recorded as flipsides to each other; different, but somehow unified. Play the first while you're waking up to a new day, and play the second when you've reached your ugly destination.
