Album Notes

Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet puts their mark on vocal jazz with their brand of tight harmonies, swingin' rhythms and inventive vocalese lyrics. Backed by a blazing rhythm section of world-class jazz instrumentalists, Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet performs in concert regularly in hometown Washington, D.C. and can be heard at jazz festivals and on jazz and NPR radio across the globe.

Hear the "Weekend Edition" broadcast that brought them to the attention of the nation at www.npr.org.

"Four Voices blending together and just swinging like mad!" --- Susan Stamberg, NPR

"The Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet ultimately makes a particularly demanding aspect of jazz performance come alive." - Mike Joyce, The Washington Post

"If there's a space for another vocal-jazz ensemble on the national scene, [Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet] is poised to claim it." --- Joel E. Siegel, The Washington City Paper

"The Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet may not have invented this vocal style, but they perform it with the confidence that suggests they did. The artistry and professionalism that oozes from these uptowners places them in the game on their own terms." --- Cadence Magazine

These are serious, high quality musicians into high quality performances. And after finding out they are from my area, I will definitely go to see them at the first opportunity.
