This Will Haystacks Balblowya Away!
author: James Spina
Yes the clapton and beck connotations are certainly there but the real root of this terrifically full-formed band holds distinctively closer ties to the horn driven sound of a variety of John Mayall bands and the promise of what Electric Flag COULD have become. The partnership of mayo and polott dates back to the early heavy rock daze of Haystacks Balboa, a band whose time came and went far too fast. the two Marks have stayed together in riff-gangster harmony for years and have honed both chops and songwriting to a sphere of perfection that nearly belies their white-boys-based-in-blues heritage. this CD should be gaining massive amounts of acclaim but the world of pop culture and sound has moved on beyond the power of this mountain of sound/song. But FIVE stars? Yes. Nothing less. It's got to do with the ease and confidence layered on to the swing of this mighty music. These guys have been doing this for ages and yet not a note or noise sounds jaded or jilted. There is joy in the tear here and a rush of emotions that can only come for musicians doing it for the elusive love of music.

Urban Blue has great sound, great lyrics and really brought me back to my youth. I love the raspy sounds, the down and dirty bluesy sound leaves me wanting more.
