Album Notes

Urszula Dudziak is one of the most inventive jazz vocalists of the past few decades. Born in Bielsko-Biata, Poland, she grew up listening to artists like Ella Fitzgerald and in the 1970s moved to New York (after making a name for herself in her native country).

Urszula incorporates elements of Polish folk, rock, and classical music into her repertoire, the result of which is an exciting and arguably indescribable sub-genre of jazz. Gifted with a four-and-a-half octave vocal range, she was dubbed "jazz singer of the year" by the Los Angeles Times in 1979. Dudziak is still active today and has worked with the likes of Gil Evans, Archie Shepp, Lester Bowie, Bobby McFerrin, and Polish jazz violinist Michal Urbaniak.

Enjoy this classic Inner City re-release, originally out in 1979, featuring music by Dudziak, her bandmate and then-husband Urbaniak, and others.
