Dan's first solo Studio Album... A simple recording and a marker of an artist experimenting with the recording studio and begin to hone his future sound an style. If you have the rest of his albums... this is a good album to complete your collection... But for your FIRST purchase of a Dan Vaillancourt album... I would suggest Lovely Distractions and Melodic Snapshots.
Dan began to record his first solo album, in late November of 1999. After 9 months of hard work in the studio, his debut was released in August 2000. The self-titled disc contains 12 original songs featuring a variety of musical techniques and instruments.
Some of the instruments that he plays on the album include: acoustic 12 & 6 string guitars, electric guitar, 5 string electric bass, acoustic bass, dobro, lapsteel, djembe and other percussion.
Some of the guest musicians add flavor to the album with mandolin, saxophone, harp, cello and baritone guitar, just to name a few.

Although he generally labels himself as funk/folk (folk/funk?), Dan Vaillancourt sets a standard for style that is immeasurable by ANYBODY in the music business. This album, a fine example of all that he is capable of, shows his maturity as a muscian and also leaves a glimpse as to the professional potential that he has. Funk, Folk, or otherwise, I have no doubt that Dan Vaillancourt will be heard from in the future.

Dan Vaillancourt's music deserves not to be compared to others...
author: Yvonne Glasgow (Music Revue May 2002)
This disc is a medley of musical talent. Folk, rap and all around genuine rock and roll. Interestingly written lyrics fill this twelve song disc with something… different. An ear opening blend of music fills your mind. Dan Vaillancourt's music deserves not to be compared to others, it is an entity all its own. It is very inspirational, some bluesy rock on song three 'Adeline', but still mixed with other genres throughout. Dan knows how to create a mix of music gender that pleases the soul. Very relaxing, this talented effort is worth checking out.
