The Ballad of Bobby McStone is a modern classic: an independently released rock opera CD by Hollywood's Gregory Vaine.
In three rockin' acts and 23 songs, we follow the story of Bobby McStone as he struggles with his concerned parents, an evil teacher, and the corporate music business to become a chart topping rock phenomenon by selling his record over the internet.
The music is a stylistic mix ranging from country rock to power pop to hard rock, tied together by Vaine's funny and touching songwriting and distinctive guitar playing.

A great "roots rock" concept album ... who'da thunk it?!
author: Larry Jonestowne
Gregory Vaine made this 23-song rootsy "rock opera" a few years ago, and more people should hear it. With beautiful original paintings by Gregory Vaine and full lyrics, the package tells you there's something special on this disc. And there is.
If you feel like following along, there's a story of a kid rocker trying to figure out what to do with his guitar, and dealing with everything from grim school teachers to bar bands to record labels to parents along the way. But the "concept album" part is a fun bonus -- this is a dirty, clever & wonderfully performed rock 'n roll collection. It has its roots in Chuck Berry-style story-songs, the kind of folk tunes made to be played loud at a party or honky tonk. Vaine's songwriting is heartfelt and hook-filled.
I look forward to the new CD, which I hope is coming out soon.
