Power and aplomb!

This Finnish band's debut City Canyons release, "Intimations of Sorrow," was reviewed one hurricane and one computer ago; but I dug its old-school glam metal music. GUERILLA FIGHTING METHOD tackles weightier issues, namely "the Man" and his destruction of the environment. There are some love songs here, as well; but lead singer/songwriter Olli Koskela is upset by current world events. The twin guitars of Toni Ritonen and Matti Toivonen, and the tight rhythm section of bassist Janne Jääskeläinen and drummer Tipi Andersson, back Olli's chameleonic voice with power and aplomb.
My favorite songs include the blistering opener, "Fugitive," the love-lost song, "Reservoir," and the sneering "Hard Done By," which contains Olli's most Layne Staley-like vocals. Criticism of humans and their all-for-profit motives surface on "A Human Being (Will Hope Return)," and more direct fingers are pointed at politicians on "Mr. Despot."All in all, this is a darker album than its predecessor, but very musically enjoyable. Grab your copy locally, or shop online at www.citycanyons.com or major online retailers.
