God has certainly brought Ms. Valerie Gipson from a mighty long way throughout her music ministry over the years. She gives God all the glory honor and praise for the "GREAT THINGS" He has done for her in her life.
Valerie's musical background derives from that of her mother and father, in which both were musicians in their own right, vocally and instrumentally. Valerie Gipson gives all praise, honor and glory to God, because He has certainly done some "GREAT THINGS" in her life.
However, in 1987 she won second place in the Montgomery County Conroe Black Awareness youth competition.
That following year in Feb. of 1989, Valerie competed in the Junior Miss and Senior Miss Black Conroe Pageant, and won the title of Junior Miss Black Conroe in the following categories: Talent, fashion and speech presentation.
She delivered a fiery a'capella rendition of Whitney Houston's, "Where Do Broken Hearts Go, " which landed her to win the reigning title. She then graduated from Conroe High School and attended Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas to study Applied Music (Voice).
It was there that Valerie learned to sing operatic pieces of literature in such languages as Italian, French, and German. She was a committed member of the LMC chorale, and served as the soprano section leader. Later on during that same year, she received a leadership award from LMC Chorale for being "The Most Outstanding Student Of The Year."
She then attended Montgomery College located in Conroe, Texas where she became a member of the Montgomery College Chorale and continued her studies as a music major in Applied Music.
In August of 1999 she attended the GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) in New Orleans, La. and was blessed with the opportunity to perform on the same showcase as well as share the stage with some of Gospel Music's finest artists. Such artists include; Vickie Winans, Dottie Peoples, Bobby Jones, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Rev. Timothy Wright and Fred Hammond.
While at the workshop, she was offered an invitation to perform in an International Gospel Choir Workshop in Denmark, Europe as a featured soloist.
She has also performed on the TBN Christian Television Network. She has also made an appearance on the Debra Duncan show for a talent search, and won first place in the gospel category. In October 2003, she then auditioned for the Houston Stellar Awards.
She has also sang as a background vocalist for Kathy Burrell, sister of gospel recording artist, Kim Burrell. Kim Burrell has introduced Valerie Gipson as an artist in her own right.
Valerie has made her third appearance in the hit Gospel stageplay, "When Momma Prays." Playwright and writer of the play is none other than Jerri P .Beasley who happens to be KYOK 1140 AM's radio personality and announcer.
In conclusion, to her credit, Valerie has released her first debut album entitled, "GREAT THINGS," which is produced by Tahl Cole of Clockwork Music Studio. However, some of the songs were penned by lyricist Linda McDuffie, of Mac 8 Publishing.
The traditional "going back to church" track entitled, " Blessed Assurance" was recorded and produced by Robert Martinez at Music Zone Studio.
Valerie Gipson's mission is to glorify God FIRST, that people who may not know the Lord as their personal Savior will become saved through ministry of her music, that people who may be hurting, broken, or oppressed will be healed, delivered, and set free and come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and that her ministry of music will be effective, enjoyed, and be a blessing to people all over the world.
