Album Notes

Vance Taylor is a native Atlantan who knew early in life that he wanted to pursue a career in music. The piano became his instrument of choice and as a youth, he quickly mastered his craft through the tutelage of Dr. Salico, Professor of Music at Emory and Mercer Universities.

His parents recognized his talent and encouraged his pursuit of music through the church. The church congregation became his audience. This exposure provided the spiritual foundation which allowed him to grow into the accomplished musician he is today.

At the age of thirteen, Vance received his first piano and began spending endless hours practicing and perfecting his innate talent. He was relentless in his pursuit of perfection and his piano became his roommate. His Uncle exposed him to such jazz greats as Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, and Errol Gardner. He soon found his niche as a result of the exposure to these great jazz pianists. Vance’s classical and spiritual training combined with his innate musical ability creates a unique style of his own.

Vance’s first tour occurred when he accompanied Peabo Bryson. His exposure grew and he toured with numerous artists around the globe. He was the musical tour director for Toni Braxton and Earth, Wind, and Fire’s World Tour. His credits are endless and his resume΄ boasts of performances with Bob Hope, Elton John, George Howard, Aretha Franklin, Will Downing, Stanley Clarke, Roberta Flack, Kenny Lattimore, Chante Moore, After 7, and Cece Winans. Currently, he performs in the legendary group Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. He has been with this group for the past five years. When he’s not touring, Vance is sought-after to play for numerous mega churches and notable organizations in the Atlanta area.

Vance’s dedication to his craft is readily apparent from the moment his hands hit the keys. In addition to the piano, he plays the organ, keyboard, and synthesizers. He’s also a vocalist and has provided background vocals for George Howard, Peabo Bryson, and Will Downing.

Recently he completed his first solo project entitled Long Overdue. This independent CD includes ten meticulously arranged melodies that blend elements of soul, jazz, and funk. Each song is a combination of the Artist’s creative skills and abilities and is captivating to the hearts of true music lovers.

Vance’s performances are mesmerizing and his command of the piano is awesome. His hands flow effortlessly over the keys and he sedates you with his melodies. His smooth style mimics the jazz greats he was exposed to as a teenager. Whether it’s a well-known tune or one of his original works, Vance’s talent is exceptional. He is a true maestro of music.

It's always good when a person gets to a point where they feel that they have arrived in their life personally and professionally. This masterpiece is going to show everyone that listens to it how truly great an artist that Vance is. This CD also shows that he is more than a musician that plays for "Headliners". I almost forgot to mention that he can sing too. As they say good things come to those who wait but sometimes its worth it even if its "Long Overdue". Congratulations!!!

This debut solo album by keyboardist/pianist Vance Taylor is of the stuff major infernos are made. This extremely well-produced project is simply hot, hot, hot, and totally laced with heavy, heavy, funk. After one listen, smooth jazzers everywhere will mutter “Where has this guy been hiding?” Well, he’s certainly no newcomer, as he’s played in the shadows for such artists as Cece Winans, Candi Staton, George Howard, and Toni Braxton, to name a few. Also, for those of you who’ve managed to keep up with stars who’ve earned a “home” on your “Memory Lane,” Taylor has been a member of Maze featuring Frank Beverly for the past 5 years. Now, he comes forth to stand in the broad and bright sunlight of public view and dares to mesmerize with some of the boldest music I’ve heard to date. Refreshing, new, and innovative compositions so rich in flavor that repetitive play is absolutely necessary to get one to the point where he or she can stop dancing and grooving long enough to simply wonder why this much great material has not emerged before now. No matter. It’s here now, and you've just gotta grab it. Trust me: There will be no disappointment.
