Album Notes

The singer / songwriter's latest effort, "The Other Side of America", is deeply rooted in the classic rock groove, while still sounding contemporary. The new CD was recorded with the Joe Roberts Band who nailed the blistering album opener "Come Home" in one glorious take. "It was like hitting the "easy button" on a few of these", says Vansak. "Three and half minutes later and bam, this perfect storm has been created. I was very pleased with the band's passion during these sessions".

Many of the songs are socially charged and Vansak's guitar skills have never been captured quite like this before. "We set up all these old, vintage amps and just went to town", he says. "This is an album for fans of vinyl records, young and old. Musically, we went for analog warmth. Lyrically, the same characters show up in different songs at various stages of their lives. There are many layers to uncover in these songs should the listener choose to do so".

From newSlang magazine: Vansak's third full-length album deals with some "heavy" issues of class and social justice in America. It's title, The Other Side of America, sums that up pretty well.

It's a story driven work about the lives of regular people. Musically, Vansak and his band provide upbeat, solid rock instrumentals to support Vansak and his lyrical musings. "Angelina" and "Come Home" stand out for their melodic qualities, making them two of the best and most complete tracks on the album.

Note: This CD package contains an 8 - page booklet with lyrics and photos. The disc itself is pressed as a mini vinyl album and a FREE bumpersticker is incuded.

REVIEWS

Face The Other Side
author: Pete Berwick
From start to finish, Indiana's finest Steve Vansak's "The Other Side Of America" takes no prisoners. Steve is unafraid to draw the line in the sand on this hard rocking yet rootsy release. Unashamed of his political views, which I know are very strong, Steve paints a disturbing and urgent message throughout this album, a message that amidst the heavy hitting guitars and catchy and powerful hooks exhorts us to take a hard look at our country and the apathy that now so strongly prevails. Like Steve Earle and Bruce Springsteen, Vansak is not afraid to go out on a limb and proclaim his views via his music. The themes throughout Steve's new disk are strong and relevant, and at times force us to take a hard look at our country, a look that in our contentment and comfort we at times would rather not. This is one of those records that insists on being played loud, and as I cranked it on a recent trip to Nashville with the fields and plains of Northwest Indiana flying by my window, I realized that "The Other Side Of America" is indeed somewhere out there, beyond the shopping malls and plastic smiles of the suburban Hell we have fortressed ourselves within.
