Album Notes

"My first reaction on seeing this was "it's about time!" Once in the player, I turned to "remarkable!" As I wrote the review, I shifted to an utterly satisfied "superb!" This is simply grand! " ...
-Phil Dirt (www.ReverbCentral.com)

The V-People return for another invasion with their follow-up album to 'Jetty Subject To High Surf'! 17 new V-tracks from those masters of reverb, all high energy and totally authentic, as would be expected from these 4 veterans of the original surf music scene of the early 60's. Two of the tracks (Headin' Out and Mrs. Moto) from this album have been nominated in the "best surf song" category by the JPF Awards for 2009! (www.jpfolks.com)

This CD is Bitchen Buy It

I grew up where it all started and this CD is the logical progression of what Surf Music should sound like now. True to the roots but infused with solos that only maturity can deliver. Lets face it, most Surf Bands were high school kids just learning their instruments. Yes the music was simple and honest. That was its main appeal Bill Epps is a monster on the guitar and as a song writer. His solos are fresh and exciting. I have listened to the CD at least 50 times and still hear something new every time I listen. Its so gratifying to listen to dripping wet reverb on a quality recording rather some old scratchy 45 rpm record. I have to disagree that the band is almost as good as the Ventures. The Vara-Tones have taken Surf Music to a whole new level. The Ventures, while popular and more recognized, are caught in a time warp because thats what their fans want to hear. The Vara-Tones have the luxury of being obscure and are not expected to play the old standards. There is really no way to compare the two groups other than they both play Surf Music.

This CD is awesome! I just discovered the Vara-Tones 2 months ago on CD Baby, by accident, and now they are one of my favorite groups. All of the songs are excellent. Can't wait for their next release.

Surf Lives!

So who would imagine that new, original surf rock would still be popping up in this new century? And that it would be so incredibly fresh and yet so true to its roots? Playing this disc is like jumping in a time machine that goes forwards and backwards at the same time. The material and performance are a solid 5 stars. The production is a bit uneven at times, with somewhat muddy EQ on the drums and, on Pipeline, a lead guitar that's mixed way too low. But don't let that stop you from getting this disc! It's a safe bet that it sounds better than anything else in your collection, with the possible exception of their previous album "Jetty Subject To High Surf".

When a young man in the late 70's I dreamed about being able to play like these guys. This CD made me nostalgic, and at the same time glad to be where I am today. I love the reverb. The pops and hollows are the best. This album will definately turn you into a V-Person, If you weren't one already.
