notes
This debut recording of bassist and composer Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee "Previous Misconceptions" showcases the versatility of his playing, song writing and band leading abilities. As a sideman Vaughan-Lee has performed with artists such as Joe Lovano, Danilo perez, Alan Broadbent, Mary Stallings, John Abercrombie, George Garzone, Mark Levine, Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers and many others. He leads a very talented group of young up and coming stars with this two tenor saxophone quintet. The compositions of band members Mark Small and Dan Kaufman are featured alongside Vaughan-Lee's and feature the sound of a group focused more on creating a songs than featuring soloists.
Now residing in San Francisco Vaughan-Lee performs regularly as both a sideman wth many of the bay areas most well known and respected musicians and as a leader with his own trio, quartet and quintet. He is currently working on several new projects which are due to be released late this year and early 2004. Visit his website at www.emanjazz.com for more information.
