Album Notes

Jazayer was founded in 1973 by Vince Delgado, Mimi Spencer, and Devi-ja Delgado. Very soon, they became a "musician's band" - and due to the excellence, subtlety and clarity of their playing, other musicians are always their best audience. (Perhaps this is because they've never taken the easy way out: they've always tackled the most beautiful and the most difficult music, have given care to arrangements, and have always been willing to take chances. It's easy to make easy music sound good. What Jazayer does is far from easy.)

They have played backstage parties for Al Dimeola and Santana. They've also performed for Ali Akbar Khan, Bill Graham, and Francis Ford Coppola in their homes. With Dr. A.J. Racy, they performed for Queen Nur of Jordan in Houston. Jazayer has done several recording projects with Mickey Hart (who also engineered their first two LPs).

Although they continue to love and to perform the great art music of the Middle East, they have embarked on their own music as well. Much of this music was composed by the prolific Vince Delgado, with contributions from Tom Shader, as well as input in the form of arrangements, accompaniments, backup riffs, etc. from the whole band. Jazayer's first all-original recording was 1991's Hijaz City, Bayyat State; a traditional CD, Remembrances, followed in 1997. Enchanted Journey is all original.
