Vedan Kolod
The repertoire of the ensemble is based on ancient Slav songs which were discovered by the ensemble members in numerous ethnographic expeditions throughout deep Russian regions, namely Central Siberia and Altai. The name of the group, the \"Vedan Kolod\", in Old-Slav means \"the prophetic tree\". Based on thorough research, musicians recreate authentic sound of old Pre-Christian Slav culture to great details, which include now extinct Old-Slavonic dialect of the region, genuine vocal technique and authentic musical instruments, found in archaeological excavations and recreated by Valerii Naryshkin. Vedan Kolod perform not only the actual folklore songs, but also compose their own instrumental compositions and songs on old folklore texts.
Tatyana Naryshkina (group leader): vocal, flutes, Slavonic drums, ocarina, fuyara, vargan and other;

For the lovers of authentic ancient folk instruments sound
author: Sergey Lenkov
Truely, there's a little common between music by Vedan Kolod and Bulgarian Voices.
The problem for the researches of ancient Slavic music is the following. It was banned to use instruments in Orthodox Church liturgy - that's why nearly all instrumental music were treated as pagan and we have no notated records of it before the 18th century. So Vedan Kolod is taking traditional and ancient instruments (including unique Scythinan horn - the first record of its sound ever) and mixing their sound with familiar melodies of folk songs (or composing their own). Result is very interesting - a kind of look into the very past of Slavic music culture. You could believe them or not - but result is quite interesting.
Valeriy Naryshkin is using rare for European cultures style of "throat singing" (it could remind you singing of monks from Tibet). So - as I hope you understand - that's not New Age record for relaxation.
Record is for seroius lover of folk and ancient music traditions.
